Hulu’s latest football comedy series, Chad Powers, is making waves among fans of humor, Glen Powell, and the sport itself, not to mention those who hold a soft spot for classics like Mrs. Doubtfire. The burning question on everyone’s mind after the Season 1 finale, however, is whether this is the end of the line for Chad, or if a Season 2 is on the horizon.
The show draws inspiration from an episode of Eli Manning’s Eli’s Places on ESPN, crafting a narrative where a fallen quarterback, Russ Holliday (played by Powell), aims to revive his college football glory. This he does by donning facial prosthetics to become Chad Powers, a seemingly earnest football player, and secures the quarterback position for the South Georgia Catfish. The intrigue lies in how long he can maintain this facade before being discovered, leaving viewers eager for more answers in a potential Season 2.
For those who have reached the finale, it’s clear that Chad Powers — a project brought to life by Powell and co-creator Michael Waldron — holds ample promise for continuation. The lingering question remains: Has Hulu made any decisions regarding a second season? And if Chad Powers does return, what direction might the story take?
While Hulu has yet to officially confirm a renewal for the series as of October 27, the future looks bright. Michael Waldron has expressed enthusiasm for extending the series, revealing that he and Powell have mapped out ideas for up to three seasons. In a conversation with Decider, Waldron shared that the creative wheels are already turning for a sophomore season. Should the opportunity arise, the team is eager to dive back into the world of Chad Powers with fresh episodes.
Will There Be A Season 2 of Chad Powers on Hulu? Co-Creator Michael Waldron Weighs In
As of Monday, Oct. 27, Hulu had yet to official renew Chad Powers for a Season 2, but that’s not to say the show won’t return. Co-creator Michael Waldron has said he and Powell have ideas for three seasons, and during an interview with Decider, Waldron also confirmed that Season 2 brainstorming is underway. If given the opportunity to make more episodes, Waldron, Powell, and the team would love to continue!
“We always intended to have a cliffhanger,” Waldron told Decider. “And we’re working on it to try and make sure everything that happens next is is good and fulfilling.”
When Will Chad Powers Season 2 Premiere?
Since Chad Powers hasn’t been officially renewed yet, there’s no Chad Powers Season 2 premiere date on the books yet. But Waldron confirmed he and Powell wouldn’t want to make fans wait multiple years for another six-episode season.
“We want to we want to make it on time, on schedule,” Waldron explained. “I don’t want this to be one of the shows that that people have to wait forever for. There’s only it’s only six half-hour episodes. It’s not a long thing. We don’t want to withhold any longer than we have to.”
So if Chad Powers Season 2 is green-lit in a timely manner, it sounds like fans could expect new episodes in 2026.
What Will Chad Powers Season 2 Be About?
Naturally, Chad Powers Season 2 would continue to follow Russ/Chad’s football career and Mrs. Doubtfire antics. We’d learn the result of the big Season 1 finale game, see how Coach Hudson recovers from his medical scare, and crucially, see how Ricky and Chad’s dynamic shifts following the Season 1 finale epiphany.
“If we’re lucky enough to get to make a Season 2, what’s clear is that whether she likes it or not, Ricky has been pulled into this conspiracy,” Waldron told Decider. “So it’s her, Russ, and Danny pulling off Chad Powers. And that’s a whole new, really fun dynamic. It’s gonna be a blast.”
In addition to the evolving narrative, Chad Powers Season 1 featured a number of iconic guest stars, from real-life sports icons to Glen Powell’s mom and dad. So both Powell and Waldron hope to land more big guest stars in Season 2. First on the wish list? Taylor Swift.
“I’m an O.G. Taylor fan. I was blasting Taylor’s first album when I was in college, so I think I was probably even more excited about that than Glen when he said it,” Waldron told Decider. “That’s my dream, to have Taylor write and record the the Chad Powers love theme. We’ve gotta get it in front of [Taylor and the Kelces]. But big huge fan. Huge Swifty over here for sure.”
