Nigeria’s Super Eagles Head Coach, Eric Chelle, has lauded the team’s commanding 4–0 triumph over Mozambique in Fès on Monday, describing it as a powerful declaration of their ambitions at the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Victor Osimhen celebrated his milestone of 50 senior caps with two goals, while Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams each found the back of the net, ensuring Nigeria’s advancement to the tournament’s quarter-finals.
Chelle praises Super Eagles’ dominant display but warns against complacency
The match showcased the team’s sharp offensive maneuvers, cohesive teamwork, and clinical finishing.
“I’m delighted with the team’s performance. Scoring four goals is a remarkable achievement, but it’s just one step in our journey,” Chelle remarked to the press.
While commending the squad for their discipline and dedication, Chelle also warned against complacency. “The journey is far from over. We must remain focused and continue to play with the same intensity,” he emphasized.
Nigeria sets sights on quarter-final clash with Algeria or DR Congo
The coach also outlined preparations for the next stage. “We’ll travel to Marrakech on Wednesday to prepare for a tough quarter-final clash against the winner of Algeria and DR Congo,” Chelle said.
Emphasising team unity, Chelle noted that all internal matters would remain private. “My responsibility is to keep the players concentrated and disciplined. Success starts with focus and consistency,” he said.
With this win, Nigeria advances to the quarter-finals, keeping its ambitions of lifting the AFCON trophy alive.
