Cher Lloyd has revealed that she battled postnatal depression after giving birth to her second daughter Eliza in 2023.

The singer, 31, revealed that she would see visions of ‘cars driving into her baby’ while walking down the street and was ‘unable to sleep or eat’, as she opened about her struggles for the first time.

Speaking on Paul Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast, Cher admitted that her battle with postnatal depression ‘shook her to her core,’ and has left her considering the prospect of never having anymore children.

She said: ‘After I had my youngest daughter Eliza, I’d heard about postnatal depression, before but I didn’t understand what it meant for someone to go through it.

‘So what I started experiencing was real loneliness, but also I doubted myself in everyhting that I was oding and I had this overwhelming fear that something was going to happen to my baby, and it started to affect my mental health severely.

‘I had the shakes all the time, I felt sick all the time, I couldn’t sleep, I couldnt eat, it was the worst time of my life when it was supposed to be the happiest.

‘I can’t believe I made it through that time, it was awful. I even had situations where I would be walking down the street with my baby and I had visions of cars driving into her, they came out of nowhere.

‘Postnatal depression shook me to my core and it’s made me feel like I can’t imagine having anymore children, I can’t go through that again.’

Cher went onto share that it ‘took her a very long time’ to pluck up the carriage to get help from her GP, and now she’s in a ‘much better mental state.’

‘It made me feel like I dnd’t want to leave the house, I didn’t know who I was anymore,’ she added.

‘I completely lost myself, and that’s why when you asked me what I was proud of, I say being a mother, because even though that was the hardest time of my life, my children were always safe, I protected them and they always came first even though my mental health took the biggest blow ever, and I think the only way out of it was one time I needed time I put too much pressure on myself after I had my baby, the pressure to bounce back which I think is ridiculous. Women do not need to bounce back after pregnancy.’

Cher married her boyfriend of less than two years, Craig Monk, in 2013, and they are also parents to daughter Delilah-Rae, six.

During the interview, the star also opened up about her time on The X Factor, hitting out at bosses while admitting she was ‘painted to be the villain’ on the show.

The singer first rose to fame as a contestant on the ITV show in 2010, and after impressing the judges, and viewers, she signed to Simon Cowell’s record label Syco.

Cher went onto leave three years later after the star revealed she and Simon, 65, had disagreed about her career path and how she couldn’t handle that level of ‘control’.

The star confessed that due to the fact she hit out at negative attention towards her when she was on The X Factor, she was ‘painted as the villain’ by bosses.

Offering insight into the show’s welfare support at the time, Cher went onto add that even though she was just 16 when she took part on the show, she was prescribed antidepressants.

Cher delighted her fans earlier this month when she announced plans to release new music – over a decade after the release of her last album.

Taking to Instagram, Cher shared a stunning selfie and wrote: ‘Happy new year! I think it’s time for some new music…. this is not a drill!!’

Cher, who found fame on The X Factor in 2010, released her debut album Sticks And Stones the following year which featured the number one single Swagger Jagger.

She released her second album Sorry I’m Late in 2014 which reached number 21 on the UK Albums Chart.

Fans were delighted to hear Cher plans on releasing new music and wrote: ‘You do not understand how excited we all are’.
