Parents are often deeply concerned about raising their children to surpass them in every way, striving to ensure a brighter future for the next generation. Chrissy Teigen is no different. The mother-of-four recently had a truly emotional moment as she revealed what she’s afraid of passing along to her children.

On an episode of her Self-Conscious With Chrissy Teigen podcast, the 39-year-old shared with guest, New York Times bestselling author, motivational speaker, and media company CEO, Mel Robbins that she doesn’t want her children to “be imprisoned” by feeling as if they are responsible for other people’s emotions or caring what they think.

Robbins told Teigen that, she is “never responsible for managing someone else’s emotions.” That’s when the Cravings cookbook author had an “epiphany.”

Just what was the “epiphany about this matter? The former Sports Illustrated model said that she realized “that I’m not alone in this,” and that other people also feel that they are responsible for other people’s emotions/feelings and what other people think.

“Sometimes it feels very isolating to feel this way, and the fact that other people feel imprisoned by this too, that helps a lot, because one of the worst parts about it is me feeling crazy or feeling that nobody else will understand this feeling. ‘Why am I like this?’ I’m really scared of passing this along to my kids.” Teigen stated,

“I think that is the big realization for me, is, I can’t do this to my kids. I don’t ever want them to feel like they have to perform for everybody and be good all the time, but I know that sometimes I probably am that way.”

Later on in the episode, Teigen became emotional, apologizing to her guest for her breakdown in regards to the subject. “I ended up believing that I was for everybody, and my body was for everybody, and it took a hold on every part of my life, and as you can see, it still has a hold on me now,” she tearily stated.

“I cannot imagine this for my kids, I hope that they don’t want to please everybody in life, and I hope that they know that their body is their own, their mind is their own, their actions are their own, and they can’t control other people. I cannot have them live this way that I live.”
