Christina Applegate is revealing a deeply personal and painful chapter from her early years.
The Bad Moms actress speaks with raw honesty in her upcoming memoir, You With the Sad Eyes, detailing some of the most challenging experiences from her childhood, including an incident of molestation by a babysitter when she was just 5 years old.
“I was aware that everything about it was wrong,” Christina shared in an interview with People, published on February 25. “It left me feeling sick, scared, and sad. I’ve always struggled with being touched, and that discomfort persists even now.”
She continued, “Throughout my life, I’ve never been at ease with it, and it’s all because of that incident where I was coerced into something I could barely comprehend but instinctively knew was shameful.”
In her memoir, releasing March 3, Christina also details her mom’s struggle with heroin addiction, as well as the physical abuse Christina endured form one of her mom’s boyfriends, affected her as a child.
“I think I had kind of the worst situation from 3 to 7,” she shared. “But there was stuff like that going on in all our homes. Single moms, men coming in and out, drugs.”
