Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze has voiced his displeasure with the post-match media obligations following their third-place playoff.
The footballer noted that interviews persisted even as players were making their way off the field after the match concluded.
Frustration after final whistle
“It’s just endless talking, with everyone repeating the same things. We’ve wrapped up, and some of us are already in our cars, yet interviews go on. We secured third place; let’s just head home. Maybe next time, we’ll skip the bus and just call an Uber instead,” Chukwueze remarked.
His candid comments come in the wake of ongoing criticism regarding his performance and the team’s overall showing in the tournament.
Despite his evident frustration, Chukwueze continues to be a vital player for the Super Eagles, having made significant contributions throughout the competition.
His comments reflect a wider tension between players and media personnel, who often seek extended interviews even after matches have concluded.
The 24-year-old forward’s remarks have resonated with fans online, many of whom feel the media attention can sometimes be excessive.
Some supporters defended his right to vent after a taxing tournament, highlighting that players deserve rest and privacy once the game is over.
Others suggested that the comments underline a more serious issue about the treatment of athletes by sports journalists in Nigeria.
Chukwueze also hinted at future measures, joking that next time the team might enter buses directly to their hotels or order Ubers to avoid prolonged interviews.
