Call the fashion police! Kylie Jenner made a major faux pas at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s luxe Venice wedding, critics say.
The Kardashians star was spotted arriving for the big event on Friday in a silvery gown that seemed to break all the normal rules for wedding guest attire. Not only was the lingerie-inspired dress a bit risqué for a formal event, but she also seemed to flout the widely accepted rule that guests should avoid wearing anything close to a shade of white to a wedding.
Kylie Jenner’s corset-style dress draws criticism
The dress by Turkish-British designer Dilara Findikoglu featured a corset-style bodice with cut-outs under the bust. It was embellished with tiny black bows on the straps. Kylie’s hair was styled in an updo, and she accessorized with glittering diamond earrings and sunglasses.
Not everyone was impressed with the makeup mogul’s daring look.
[She] must have hidden beef who wears white to another woman’s wedding,” one person commented when InStyle shared a slideshow of photos of wedding guests on Instagram.
“Does she have no fashion sense at all, you’re never supposed to wear white to someone else’s wedding,” another wrote.
“Who wears white to a wedding?” someone commented on Vogue Weddings’ Instagram post.
Others took issue with the gown’s design. Several thought the cut-outs made it look like the dress had ripped.
Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian also attended the wedding
Kylie attended the high-profile (and controversial) wedding with most of her family. Kylie’s sister Kendall Jenner got praise for her elegant all-black dress. And Khloé Kardashian earned high marks for a strapless pink dress and feather boa ensemble. Kim Kardashian wore a figure-hugging dress with a plunging V neckline. Mom Kris Jenner donned a black dress with sheer white sleeves.
As for the bride herself, Sanchez wore a mermaid-style gown with long lace sleeves by Dolce & Gabbana. According to Vogue Weddings, the dress was inspired by the one worn by Sophia Loren in the 1958 movie Houseboat and took 900 hours to make.
“It went from ‘I want a simple, sexy modern dress’ to ‘I want something that evokes a moment,’ and where I am right now,” Sánchez told the magazine, adding, “I am a different person than I was five years ago.”
“I researched pictures of brides in the 1950s,” she said. “I wanted to reflect back, and I saw Sophia Loren and her hands were [in a prayer position] and she was in high lace, up to the neck, and I said, ‘That’s it. That’s the dress.’”
