Dani Dyer has opened up about her past relationships with ex-partners Sammy Kimmence and Jack Fincham, shedding light on what went wrong. The Love Island star, now 29, first captured the public’s eye back in 2018 when she appeared on the show alongside Jack Fincham, who was then her boyfriend.

After winning Love Island, Dani’s relationship with Jack Fincham, now 34, eventually came to an end. She then rekindled her romance with Sammy Kimmence, whom she had dated prior to her reality TV journey. The couple’s on-and-off relationship saw a significant milestone with the birth of their son, Santiago, in January 2021.

However, their relationship took a dramatic turn when Sammy was sentenced to three years in prison for defrauding victims out of £34,000. This led to their breakup in July of the same year.

In a heartfelt conversation on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, Dani reflected on these experiences, admitting that she has loved the wrong people but harbors no regrets about her past romances. Her candid revelations offer a glimpse into the challenges she faced and the lessons she has learned along the way.

On her relationship with Sammy, she said: ‘Before Love Island he never wanted to settle down with me, he was a massive player, I shouldn’t have gone back there.

‘I don’t regret anything… having Santi changed me as a person so I’m so glad I had my Sant. I think I had to go through a tricky relationship, to get my little boy, to change me as a person, to get to where I am now.’

Speaking about her current dynamic with Sammy, Dani said they remain ‘very civil’ for the benefit of their son Santiago.

She said: ‘We are very civil and I will always be very civil to him because that’s Santi’s dad, there is going to be times with Santi in school plays and I would never want Santi to feel uncomfortable.’

Dani – who shares twins Summer and Star, 17 months, with her husband Jarrod Bowen – emotionally admitted she sometimes feels ‘guilty’ Santiago has split parents.

She said: ‘He [Santiago] is never going to know his mum and dad being together, I always feel guilty because when Jarrod walks through the door the twins say ‘Daddy, daddy’ and Santi doesn’t have that.’

Dani separated from the fraudster before he was found guilty. Sammy was released early from prison in 2022.

The reality star also touched on the moment Sammy was sent to prison and revealed she never once visited him.

She said: ‘That was a really hard time, we got together and it was a lot. I never really thought about what he was doing, was I a bit naive? I don’t know.’

Reflecting on her short-lived relationship with Love Island star Jack, Dani explained she thinks their romance didn’t last because of the speed after the show

‘I just loved the wrong person and I didn’t want to say anything that Santi was going to see so I just stayed silent. Only the past year that I can actually speak about it.

‘I totally get it and now and again get the odd comment but it was my decision. I think people thought I was condoning him but I really just loved the wrong person. I totally agree that love is blind, him going to prison was the worst period of my life but the best time of my life’, she added.

Dani stressed: ‘I never wanted [to visit him in prison]. As soon as I had Santi I new what love was, it was like a switch for me, so I never went to visit him at all.’

Reflecting on her short-lived relationship with Love Island star Jack, Dani explained why the pair didn’t last.

She said: ‘It was so quick. Honestly when I was in that villa I genuinely thought I met the one, Jack was so lovely in that villa, we bonded instantly. I genuinely really did like him.’

‘We both just wanted different things, I like my boyfriend coming home and cooking dinners, I like that tight unit and Jack was just on that different page, young, good looking, wants to go out, so we just weren’t compatible on the outside world’, she continued.
