Discovery Channel has confirmed a premiere date for the latest season of Deadliest Catch. 

Season 21 of the fishing-focused reality series will premiere on Friday, August 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, the network announced Thursday. 

Captains head ‘beyond the bounds of rescue’ in new season of ‘Deadliest Catch’ 

Deadliest Catch Season 21 will follow the Dutch Harbor fleet as they embark on a gold rush-style race to catch monster red king crab in the western part of the Bering Sea. 

“To claim their share of the billion-dollar bounty, captains and crews must brave unforgiving 50-foot seas to reach abandoned Adak Island, venturing farther west than anyone has dared in over 30 years and beyond the bounds of rescue,” reads Discovery’s description of the upcoming season. “Navigating through unfamiliar territory to secure the lucrative haul, the crews face extreme conditions and major ship malfunctions that put them in serious life-threatening situations, leaving the fleet at the mercy of the tumultuous western Bering Sea.”

Discovery has not confirmed which captains and boats will be featured in Deadliest Catch Season 21. However, Captain Jake Anderson has shared on Instagram that he and the F/V Titan Explorer will be part of the new season. The F/V Wizard, which is captained by Keith Colborn, is also featured in photos of the new season. 

Three new shows coming to Discovery Channel this summer 

In addition to the return of Deadliest Catch, Discovery has also announced premiere dates for three all-new series. 

Hit survival reality show Naked and Afraid is getting another spinoff, Naked and Afraid: Apocalypse. It premieres July 27 and follows 12 survivalists as they “take on a scorched, apocalyptic wasteland where they must scavenge ruins to survive.” Set in South Africa, four teams will be dropped into either a ghost town, vehicle junkyard, cemetery, or mine shaft. They must scavenge supplies and make a plan to find their way back to civilization. 

Following the premiere of Naked and Afraid: Apocalypse, Discovery will air In the Eye of the Storm. Using crowdsourced first-person storytelling, the show highlights recent weather disasters, including flooding in Appalachia and this year’s wildfires in Los Angeles. 

Animals on Drugs debuts July 28. This real-life spin on Cocaine Bear features stories of wild animals getting dangerously high, including “meth gators” in Florida, bears who ransack homes for booze and edibles, and Pablo Escobar’s infamous hippos, who escaped from the drug kingpin’s abandoned compound and are now threatening Colombia’s fragile ecosystem. 

In addition, a new season of Mud Madness premieres July 29. The show offers viewers a look at the subculture of extreme UTV and ATV mud racing.
