The 2025 Met Gala allowed celebrities to show off their best looks that fit the theme, “Tailored for You.” Fashion designer Dapper Dan told CNN that “real dandyism” began with wide-shouldered, high-waisted zoot suits and the Harlem Renaissance. “It’s when Black artists and creatives began to dress the way they felt,” he explained.

Many of the attendees wore colorful menswear, suits on suits, and referenced Black icons in history. While many stars stole the spotlight briefly, it was Diana Ross who commanded the most attention. According to data from Casino.org, Ross stole the show with 127 seconds of screen time — more than any other celebrity of the night. She showed a “Duchenne smile” — a smile characterized as genuine, stretching from the ears to the mouth.

Ross arrived at the Met Gala in a 60-pound train that was 18 feet long and embroidered with the names of her kids and grandchildren. Her pale yellow suit matched the train. Ross’s jewelry by Emefa Cole paid homage to Ghanaian royalty.

So, who received the second-most screen time? Shakira had 115 seconds of screen time, nearly besting Ross. Damson Idris, known for starring in John Singleton’s crime drama Snowfall, was three seconds behind Shakira.

Diana Ross’s appearance at the 2025 Met Gala marks her first time at the event since 2003. Celebrity body language expert Inbaal Honigman via Casino.ca explained how Ross appeared incredibly happy to be back for the star-studded evening.

“Her face is a vision,” Honigman said. “Even though her body is weighed down by her enormous, glamorous coat, her facial expressions do the talking. Her smile is the broadest imaginable, touching her eyes, cheeks, and teeth, showing how delighted she is to be there and how meaningful the theme is for her.”

“We see her trying to close her lips, perhaps trying for a more neutral expression, but her apparent joy won’t let her dim her own smile,” the expert continued.

“The width of her smile is more than just happiness, it is pride, as she is there with her son, and the names of all her kids and grandkids are stitched into her coat; she is proud of all of them too.”

Shakira might’ve attracted attention for the wrong reasons

Aside from Diana Ross, Shakira commanded a lot of screen time at the Met Gala. Unfortunately, it might be for the wrong reasons. She wore a pink Prabal Gurung gown with a massive train that many fans didn’t like.

“Hair is gorge but the outfit is just … ugh,” a fan on Reddit wrote.

“At least the worst-dressed list won’t be all boring black outfits,” another fan wrote.

“All that money and not an iron or steamer in sight,” another fan commented.
