Just a day after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle found themselves in the spotlight for receiving boos at a Los Angeles Dodgers versus Toronto Blue Jays World Series game, the Duke of Sussex made an unexpected guest appearance on comedian Hasan Minhaj’s podcast.
Though Prince Harry might be getting acquainted with America’s beloved sport, he appears less familiar with some of the country’s pop culture dynamics. Or is he?
How Prince Harry reacted when asked about the Taylor Swift-Charli XCX feud
While chatting on the podcast titled Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know, the host posed a question that seemed to catch the prince off guard.
“This one’s a biggie, Harry. What are your thoughts on the Taylor Swift and Charli XCX feud?” Minhaj inquired.
“The what? Oh no,” responded the Duke, eyebrows shooting up in a mix of surprise and bewilderment.
“The what? Oh no,” the duke said, raising his eyebrows in confusion and looking very surprised.
Minhaq continued, “No, this is serious. Cause was Charli’s diss track even a diss track? I mean, to me, ‘Sympathy is a Knife’ was about something completely different, but then Taylor comes back, and I think escalates it, with the ‘Actually Romantic’ thing. And I’m kind of thinking to myself, ‘Is this fair? Or did Charli draw blood, and Taylor had to respond?”
Of course, it wouldn’t be smart for the prince to offer his opinion on an alleged celebrity feud, especially when it involves the biggest pop star in the world, who his wife personally wrote a letter to asking to meet (Swift declined). But judging by Harry’s reaction, he really appeared to have had no idea about any possible feud between the ladies.
Prince Harry also spoke about his work with The Parents’ Network
With the fun, jokes, and awkwardness of Prince Harry likely being unaware of the pop stars’ feud aside, he was able to get down to business and discuss his work with The Parents’ Network.
“Myself and my wife, we’ve talked about this quite a lot. You know, we’ve had our own, our fair share of beatings on social media. And I guess when we moved to the US, one of the things that we both agreed on was, yes, we could focus on the things that really, that are very clearly obviously aligned to our passions and causes,” Harry recalled.
He added, “We agreed and what we were in search of was what is the root cause of so much suffering and pain around the world and if we can identify that, how can we shine a light on that and support the people trying to change the industry? And then it was the tech industry and it was social media and we’re like ‘Well, that’s not very sexy.’ There’s no real- how do you tell this story? And then we saw the experts at Stanford and we realized there had been a growing group of experts and researchers who had been raising the alarm for so many years and weren’t being listened to.”
Harry then explained that after he and Meghan “met these experts and researchers at Stanford, we were like: ‘This is something that we should put our weight behind.’”
