‘I respect myself and my journey enough to not spill the tea,’ Meri said in a recent Instagram video.
Meri Brown is keeping her secrets.
On August 22, the Sister Wives star took to social media to say that she “wasn’t going to spill the tea.” Some of her followers interpreted her comments as a dig at her former sister wife Christine Brown, who has a new memoir coming out about her life in the polygamist Brown family.
Meri Brown wants to ‘keep my own peace’
On Friday, Meri posted a short video to Instagram where she spoke about why she’s not opening up about all the details of her life.
“I respect myself and my journey enough to not spill the tea,” she says. “I feel like in order to keep my own peace and to stick to my integrity in the whole situation, I’m not going to spill the tea. But that doesn’t mean there’s not tea to be spilled. I’m just choosing not to.”
“That’s really important to me,” she adds, before devolving into giggles as she struggles to correctly pronounce “important.”
While the video was humorous, some people on Meri’s social media interpreted her remarks as a reference to Christine and her upcoming book, Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom. The two women frequently clashed when they were sister wives, and they have not maintained a friendship since each split from their shared husband.
“Mean girl vibes towards Christine,” one person wrote.
“I feel like this is a dig at Christine and I just don’t really get why,” another commented. “You’ve always been different people who want different things, it’s totally fine to say you don’t want to spill the tea but I’m gonna be really honest with you saying “I respect myself enough not to spill the tea” sounds like you’re implying people who do want to speak out somehow don’t respect themselves.”
Christine Brown has a right to share her side of ‘Sister Wives’ story, fans say
Another person agreed that Christine should feel free to share her experience as one of Kody’s wives.
“I think there is a lot that has been covered up,” they wrote. “Christine has her story and has the right to share it. You have the right not to, but I think Christine has respected herself very well.”
Others called Meri out for stirring the pot.
“If you’re not going to spill the tea, what’s the point of this video?” one asked.
“This is just rude to Christine,” one person said. “Not classy, Meri.”
