We are, without question, living in a world where trends and preferences constantly shift, and baby names are not immune to this phenomena. With cultural influences and modern naming choices shaping the way we pick names for the next generation and beyond, certain traditional or unique names are at risk of disappearing entirely. Here are 40 baby names that are teetering on the brink of extinction, is your name or your favorite on the list?

Recently, BabyCenter published a report highlighting the baby names that are slated for an extinction even of their own. According to their data, popular names from the ’80s and ’90s such as Kelsey, Chelsea, Erin, Jamie and Taylor are soon to become dinosaurs in their own rights.

Being a millennial myself, it’s a little bittersweet to see popular millennial names fade,” Rebekah Wahlberg, BabyCenter’s baby name specialist said in and interview with Huffpost. “But it’s completely normal for Gen Z and millennial parents to want to switch things up, so I get it.”

Check out the other names on their list for both boys and girls that are fading into oblivion!

“Parents who love an underdog story might be inspired seeing these names at risk of going extinct ― who wouldn’t want to say they helped bring a name back from the brink?” Wahlberg said in her interview. “And on the other hand, if you’re someone with one of these names, it can be fun and empowering to know you’re one of the proud few with a unique name.”
