The sensational new series Landman took audiences and the streaming world by storm. 

Landing a spot on Decider’s 24 Best Shows Of 2024, Landman zeroes in on the deadly and dynamic oil fields in West Texas, where “roughnecks and wildcat billionaires try to get rich quick in the oil business as oil rigs begin to dominate the state.” Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) is a crisis management exec for an oil company, dealing with the costly chaos of the profession and his messy personal life. Jon Hamm and Demi Moore also star. Thornton’s performance earned him a 7th Golden Globe nomination, and the show became the top original series of all time on Paramount+ with 14.9 million watchers. Talk about a gold rush!

Writer and real-life cowboy Taylor Sheridan, also the creator of the hit show Yellowstone and its prequel spin offs, based the series on the Texas Monthly podcast Boomtown, which explores all the diverse characters revolving around West Texas oil fields. Christian Wallace, host of Boomtown, also served as co-creator of Landman.

Billy McBride is a former big shot lawyer turned alcoholic trying to get by on ambulance chasing. During his revenge arc, bigger conspiracies begin to come to light.

3. This contemporary western crime series follows Joe Pickett (Michael Dorman) starting a new life with his family working as a game warden in the rural town of Saddlestring, Wyoming. While attempting to settle into their crumbling environment, Pickett balances family crises, a murder and protecting the wildlife he’s sworn to while unearthing even more conspiracies. 4. If you loved taking a dive into the oil rig industry, what about taking a look at the maple syrup business? Syrup farmer Ruth Landry (Margo Martindale) turns to a life of crime after authorities threaten her livelihood. Extremely loosely based on the real “Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist” in Quebec, Landry teams up with a Boston criminal and amateur security guard and plots to steal millions worth of maple syrup from the Canadian government. This sweet act of revenge evidently turns into something more lethal than anticipated.

5. Timothy Olyphant stars as Raylan Givens– a deputy that sticks to his own guns when it comes to serving justice, putting him at odds with the criminals he pursues and his superiors in the U.S. Marshall Service. After being reassigned to his native Kentucky county, Givens confronts his past and newfound foes. Walton Goggins, current king of HBO Sunday nights, also stars in this six season western showdown.

6. American Primeval takes you back to the unforgiving purgatory that was the Old West, following several 1857 pioneers navigate the former Utah Territory. You’re facing stuff of nightmares– cannibals, wolves, Mormon-run militias and the U.S. government. If you want to watch a gritty, brutal Western fight for survival, look no further. 

7. Lastly, in this Taylor Sheridan series, the only booming business in Kingstown, Michigan is the prison system. The McLusky family are power brokers in the corrupted town. With seven prisons in a 10 middle radius, middle brother Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) has the job of being the channel between the prisoners and the rest of civilization. This show tackles systemic racism, incarceration and power imbalances in three seasons of dark drama, with a fourth on the way.
