Donnie Wahlberg‘s series Boston Blue is all set for its sophomore season, but who will be back on screen following significant casting changes?
Before Boston Blue, fans were captivated by Blue Bloods, which chronicled the Reagan family’s life, deeply entrenched in the NYPD. At the helm was NYC police commissioner Frank Reagan, portrayed by Tom Selleck. Central to the story were also Frank’s father, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), and his children: Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan), Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).
The series ran successfully from 2010 until 2024, paving the way for a new chapter with a spinoff. In this new narrative, Wahlberg’s character transitions from the NYPD to a role with the Boston P.D., where he partners with detective Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green), who hails from a prestigious law enforcement lineage.
Although the core of Boston Blue remains intact, it underwent some casting shifts, notably welcoming Mika Amonsen to the role of Sean, originally played by Andrew Terraciano. The show quickly became a hit, prompting CBS to renew it after it shattered network records.
