In the newest installment of Southern Charm, Whitner—who joined the series in Season 11 as an acquaintance of Shep Rose and a former law classmate of Craig Conover—confirms the buzz that he is indeed related to the legendary Jimmy Buffett.
Renowned for classics like “Come Monday,” “Margaritaville,” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” Buffett was the undisputed King of Tropical Rock, also known as “Trop Rock.” While his enduring legacy thrives through his music, resorts, and his dedicated followers, the “Parrotheads,” it now finds an unexpected new venue on Bravo!

Who is Whitner Slagsvol?
Whitner might have chosen a life in Margaritaville, but he’s instead carving out a career as a lawyer with his own practice. As shown in Season 11, Episode 4, Whitner’s day kicks off at 5 a.m. with a three to four-mile run, followed by more exercise, ensuring he’s ready to hit the office by 8 a.m.
Per BravoTV, the lawyer, 36, graduated from the College of Charleston in 2012 with a Bachelor of the Arts in English and a minor in film (hence the literary party). He later earned his Juris Doctorate from the Charleston School of Law in 2015, before opening up Slagsvol Law Firm in 2017. The company’s LinkedIn page describes itself as “a boutique corporate, entertainment law, and civil litigation firm, with a focus on building personal relationships and providing creative solutions for clients.”
Whitner may be related to rock and roll royalty, but it’s not always 5 ‘o clock somewhere for him. As seen at Craig Conover’s pool party in Episode 5, Whitner has no problem stepping away from the fun to take a business call. “I wouldn’t throw pool party on a Wednesday. I’m an adult and I have work to do,” he says in the episode.
How is Whitner Slagsvol related to Jimmy Buffett?
Whitner reveals in Episode 10 that his aunt, Jane Slagsvol, married Jimmy Buffett, making the legendary singer his uncle.
Jane and Jimmy first met in the early 1970s when she was vacationing in Key West on spring break from the University of South Carolina. The two wed in 1977, the same year Buffett had his big break with the release of his hit single “Margaritaville,” which he later turned into a multi-billion dollar brand. Jane and Jimmy shared three kids together—and while they briefly separated in the 1980s, they ultimately got back together and stayed together until Buffett died of skin cancer in September 2023.
