August is shaping up to be an exciting month for TV enthusiasts, with several much-awaited series making their returns. Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness recently made its comeback on Paramount+, garnering plenty of attention. The action-packed thriller Reacher, a favorite on Prime Video, is set to hit screens on August 12. Netflix’s Leanne is also on the list, with its second season arriving towards the tail end of the month.
However, fans may notice one glaring absence from this lineup: ABC’s popular show, The Rookie, is missing in action.
For devoted viewers eager to uncover what lies ahead after the jaw-dropping finale of the last season, some insights trickled out during San Diego Comic-Con, thanks to a teaser from showrunner Alexi Hawley.
“Expect some twists and changes,” hinted Hawley. “We endeavor to keep each season fresh…repetition is something we avoid at all costs.”
Adding to the anticipation, it’s been disclosed that the new season will kick off with a gripping two-part episode. As for the precise airing schedule of The Rookie on ABC and Hulu, here are the details we’ve gathered so far.
Is The Rookie New Tonight (August 3)?
Nope. Tonight’s ABC primetime schedule features a new episode of Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro, followed by reruns of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and Celebrity Family Feud.
Has The Rookie Been Renewed For Season 9?
Yes! Back in April, ABC renewed The Rookie for a ninth season.
When Does Season 9 of The Rookie Come Out?
Sadly, The Rookie isn’t on ABC’s upcoming fall schedule. It was announced at the Disney Upfront event that High Potential, Will Trent, and The Rookie will all be held for midseason premieres. Official release dates have yet to be announced, but all three programs will return in early 2027, with our best guess being early January.
High Potential and Will Trent will most likely air on Tuesdays, with The Rookie and the upcoming spinoff The Rookie: North, which stars Jay Ellis, Janet Montgomery, Karen Fukuhara, Chris Sullivan, Froy Gutierrez, Mya Lowe, and Malik Watson — going back-to-back on Mondays.
