Today, Netflix is set to broadcast a must-see live event featuring the Artemis II mission.
On Monday, April 6, the Artemis II crew will conduct a lunar flyby, providing an up-close view of various lunar features, including the Orientale basin. This vast crater spans nearly 600 miles and dates back 3.8 billion years, as detailed by NASA’s mission updates.
Adding to the mission’s excitement, the Artemis II team is poised to shatter the record for the furthest distance humans have ventured from Earth as they pass by the moon. The spacecraft is predicted to reach a peak distance of 252,760 miles from Earth at approximately 7:07 p.m. EDT. This will surpass the previous record of 248,655 miles, set by the Apollo 13 team in 1970.
In a recent video release, NASA confirmed that the Orion spacecraft has officially entered the lunar sphere of influence. During this mission, the Artemis II crew will set a new benchmark for human space travel distance, surpassing the Apollo 13 milestone from over five decades ago.
NASA astronaut Christina Koch, aboard the Orion spacecraft, shared the thrilling update that the spacecraft is now “descending towards the moon, instead of moving away from Earth,” describing this as a “remarkable milestone.”
