Welcome back to the magical world of Hogwarts!

HBO has unveiled a tantalizing first look at the upcoming Harry Potter television series. The image features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter himself, seen from behind while donning a Gryffindor robe and carrying a Quidditch broomstick. The teaser, shared on Tuesday, hints at more to come with its cryptic caption, “Tomorrow ⚡️.”

The series is inspired by J.K. Rowling’s iconic book series and the blockbuster eight-film saga it inspired. McLaughlin stars as the renowned young wizard, with Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton playing his loyal friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, respectively.

Filming for the series began in July 2025, with the premiere set for 2027. The cast boasts talents such as John Lithgow, Nick Frost, Paapa Essiedu, Paul Whitehouse, Bertie Carvel, Janet McTeer, Katherine Parkinson, Johnny Flynn, and Bel Powley. Notably, Warwick Davis returns to his beloved role as Professor Filius Flitwick.

Sarah Aubrey, head of original programming at HBO Max, addressed the challenge and excitement of adapting Harry Potter for TV during a keynote at the Series Mania TV conference in Lille, France. As reported by Variety, Aubrey acknowledged the substantial “financial investment [they] normally wouldn’t make” and emphasized the project’s unique significance.

Daniel Radcliffe, the first to play Harry Potter onscreen, revealed on Good Morning America in November 2025 that he didn’t “want to be a specter in the life of these children” taking on the roles from him, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, but that he had written McLaughlin a letter that read, “‘I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time,’” per People.

All eight Harry Potter films are streaming on HBO Max.
