It doesn’t look like Drew Barrymore will be auditioning for American Idol any time soon.

The actress had American Idol judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie visit The Drew Barrymore Show to discuss their experiences filming this season with a whole new slate of contestants.

“It changes your life but it’s like, when I’m listening to your stories I think about the people who come in. Auditioning is so vulnerable. I mean, oh my God, it’s like a proctology exam,” Barrymore said, causing the Idol judges to laugh. “It’s uncomfortable, it’s raw, it’s terrifying.”

Barrymore then shared a clip of one contestant who could only audition for the judges after she put on her sunglasses and turned her back on them.

“What I love about this is you have all been there, you literally on this exact platform,” Barrymore said to Underwood, who launched her career after winning American Idol in 2005. “What’s going through your mind when you see this woman have to turn around and put on her sunglasses?”

“That one was very unique,” Underwood began.

“Normally you go in you’ve kind of accepted this is what I have to do now, I have to sing in front people,” she said. “We had that talk with her as well after that. We were like, you know you’re gonna have to sing to people in front of people, lots of people.”

Underwood continued, “I feel like at the end of the day, we’re trying to help them, we’re all learning, we want them to learn. We’ve been there, we want to help them be the best entertainer, the best singer, the best person on stage they can be.”

This is Underwood’s first season as a judge on the show, marking the first time a former Idol winner has served as an official judge. She replaced Katy Perry, who exited after seven seasons on the show.

The new season of American Idol premieres March 9 at 8/7c with a two-hour premiere special.

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
