Dunsin Oyekan is a Nigerian gospel singer. He is also a songwriter, producer, guitarist, and recording artist. He is the musician of the popular gospel song “Open Up.” The song is well-known among Nigerian Christians. The son’s YouTube video has around 2 million views and is characterized as soul-uplifting. Dunsin Oyekan is also credited as a musician on the tune “If All I Say Is Jesus.” The song is one of the tracks on his album Code Red.

Dunsin Oyekan’s ministry has spread throughout Nigeria and beyond the world. He is frequently referred to as “The Eagle.” He is passionate about soul-winning missions, which he carries out through the Code Red Worship Experience and the Healing Room Worship Event, both of which he developed. Dunsin Oyekan was born on November 5, 1984, in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. He was born as the sole son of Mr. Gbadebo Oyekan’s family. His father is late, but his mother is still living and well.

Dunsin received his basic education at the Air Force Nursery and Primary School in Ilorin. He began his secondary studies at Federal Government College in Ilorin and finished the six-year program at Baptist Model High School in Ilorin.

Dunsin went on to study Industrial Chemistry at the University of Ilorin in Kwara State after being dissatisfied with his previous schooling. He also met his wife while studying at the University of Ilorin in Kwara State.

Dunsin Oyekan was married to Adedoyin Oyekan, a university coursemate, until her death on Saturday, May 18, 2019. He did not disclose the news of his wife’s death on Facebook with a mournful note; instead, he hailed victory and thinks that his wife has gone to heaven. The cause of his wife’s death was not revealed, although she has been laid to rest since 2019. His wife died, leaving him with two children.

Dunsin Oyekan has not married again, and he has not said that he intends to remarry, for unclear reasons. Dunsin met his late wife on February 2, 2013, and the couple produced two children. He and several of his colleagues escaped a terrible car accident in September 2022.

Dunsin’s father, Pastor Gbadebo Oyekan, was an early propagator of the Pentecostal movement in Nigeria. He was the General Overseer of the Evangelical Baptist Church and the head of the Ilorin-based “Spiritual Singers” music ensemble.

Career

Dunsin Oyekan’s ministry began with his father’s love of music. His father persuaded him to learn to play the bass guitar when he was quite young. He consented, and by the age of ten, he had mastered the instrument, sparking a lifelong interest in music. He joined the local choir and rose through the ranks of the music profession.

Dunsin Oyekan is a music producer by profession. He began learning music with the guitar, but he now performs with a variety of musical instruments.

He was once the music director of the COZA choir—Avalanche of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly. His departure from the church was apparently due to a disagreement with the church’s leader.

Despite his loss, Dunsin remained determined to spread the gospel wherever he was called. He has ministered at major venues like “The Experience 2017,” where he sang “Na You” with Kim Burrell. He has also shared the stage alongside gospel performers such as Tasha Cobbs, Kurt Carr, Don Moen, Byron Cage, Tye Tribbett, William Murphy, Chris Morgan, Kim Burrell, Sinach, Tasha Page-Lockhart, Frank Edwards, and Freke Umoh.

Dunsin Oyekan published his 14-track first album, Code Red, in 2016 and has since released over thirty tracks. He is signed to the Dunsin Oyekan record label.

Dunsin was designated one of the 100 Most Influential People in Christian Ministry in Nigeria by Ynaija, in recognition of his effect on the gospel music business. In 2019, his song Imole De received a Song of Excellence nomination from the Africa Gospel Music and Media Awards (AGMMA).
