After five seasons of laughs, life lessons, and serious drip, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan has officially wrapped—and the show’s young star, Dylan Gilmer is breaking his silence on the cancellation.

Gilmer, took to Instagram, reflecting on how far he’s come since stepping into the spotlight at just 10 years old.

“I started Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan at 10 years old. After five incredible seasons we are officially wrapping production. Thank you to the entire cast @heroamirhunter, @officialcelinasmith, @thejetmiller, @thecarlpayne, @miekohillman, @alomawright, crew, producers, directors, Tyler Perry Studios @tylerperrystudios and Nickelodeon @nickelodeon, for the work we’ve created and the stories we’ve brought to life around this show,” he began a caption of a carousel of images.

He concluded, “To our supporters, thank you for inviting us into your home every week, your viewership was greatly appreciated. Thank you to Chip Hurd, Chef Tony, @ellendegeneres, @tylerperry, @brobtv, @jeneffa and @flyystylez. I am more grateful than you’ll ever know. Stay tuned for the next chapter of Young Dylan.”

And just because the curtain is closing on the series doesn’t mean Gilmer is stepping away from the spotlight. In fact, if you’ve been paying attention, you already know that his talents go far beyond the screen.

Before his sitcom days, Young Dylan was lighting up Instagram with freestyle videos that eventually landed him on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. That viral moment opened doors, including a deal with Tyler Perry and his very own Nickelodeon series. But Dylan hasn’t stopped leveling up since.

Outside of TV, he’s been making major moves in music, dropping original tracks, performing at huge events like NBA All-Star Weekend, and even opening for major acts like Lil Nas X. He’s also signed with Tyler Perry Studios.

And just last week, he showed up in style at the 2025 Kids’ Choice Awards, where Young Dylan was nominated for Favorite Kids TV Show. Dylan and Hero Hunter were up for Favorite Male TV Star, while Celina Smith snagged a nom for Favorite Female TV Star. Even with the series ending, it’s clear fans and the industry still see the star power.

Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan followed a young aspiring rapper who shakes up his upper-middle-class family’s world. But what made it special wasn’t just the comedy, it was the way it spotlighted Black youth, creativity, and ambition in a way that felt fresh and affirming.

So what’s next? If Gilmer’s career so far is any indication, the best is yet to come, and we’re all here for it.
