Ellen DeGeneres has crafted an enviable real estate portfolio that’s the talk of Hollywood. Alongside her wife, Portia de Rossi, the former talk-show star has engaged in buying and selling numerous California properties, frequently flipping them for impressive profits or achieving record-breaking sales. Over recent years, their acquisitions have included notable estates, such as a sprawling nearly 10-acre property in Carpinteria and a Roman-inspired villa in Montecito. More recently, the couple circled back from a stint in the U.K.’s Cotswolds to settle in a $27.4 million mansion in Montecito. Here’s a closer look at this latest addition to their collection.

Ellen DeGeneres bought a $27.4 million mansion in Montecito, California, expanding their real estate

Renowned for her long-running talk show, Ellen DeGeneres is making a return to U.S. soil. According to People magazine, DeGeneres and her spouse, Portia de Rossi, have secured a $27 million estate in Montecito, California. A real estate insider revealed that the couple was drawn back by California’s appealing climate, while de Rossi also yearned for the local ‘horse scene.’

Realtor.com uncovered that the couple acquired this property in an off-market deal from famed Hollywood producer Brian Grazer. The purchase was facilitated through a trust overseen by Harley J. Neuman, DeGeneres’ business manager. Grazer had originally bought the estate for $7.6 million back in 2012.

Situated on a three-acre expanse, the mansion reportedly includes six bathrooms and three bedrooms. The estate is designed for privacy, featuring high hedges and a gated entrance, complemented by a long driveway. Previous listings indicate the property comprises three separate structures: the main house and two additional guest cottages.

A source relayed to People that the couple does not intend to permanently relocate to the U.S. Instead, they plan to divide their time between their picturesque dwelling in the Cotswolds and their newly acquired Californian retreat.

An insider told People that the couple doesn’t plan to move back to the U.S. full-time. Instead, they plan to split their time between their home in the Cotswolds and their new California mansion.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi love living in the Cotswolds

While Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi may make their way stateside more often thanks to their new Montecito mansion, they still adore living abroad. The couple reside in a striking contemporary home set against rolling Oxfordshire hills. It features expansive floor‑to‑ceiling windows, clean architectural lines, and open living spaces, all on roughly 100 acres of grounds that offer privacy in one of England’s most coveted landscapes, according to The London Standard.

DeGeneres and de Rossi had bought and renovated Kitesbridge Farm before moving into their current modern house, according to Architectural Digest. The historic 43‑acre Cotswolds property dates back to the 1700s. And it came complete with a traditional stone farmhouse, a separate guesthouse, heated indoor pool, a gym, and a party barn. They eventually listed that home for sale after deciding to relocate within the region for more space for de Rossi’s horses

DeGeneres previously remarked on how much she adores living in the U.K. “It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said, according to the BBC. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture — everything you see is charming, and it’s just a simpler way of life.”

The famous couple likely still owns a Santa Barbara home that they bought in 2021

Aside from her newly acquired Montecito mansion, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have long been active players in the California luxury real estate market. One of their notable remaining holdings before their U.K. move was a Santa Barbara area home that wasn’t part of the high‑end flips.

In 2021, the couple purchased a Santa Barbara property for about $2.95 million that appears to still be under their ownership even as they sold multiple other California homes. This residence is a modest two‑bedroom, two-bathroom home near the seaside region, according to Architectural Digest.
