Sam Ryder has reflected on his epic interval performance at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest after fans claimed he upstaged the UK’s entry Mae Muller.

Mae, 25, represented the United Kingdom during Saturday’s final held in Liverpool but she ranked second to last with 24 points on the final leaderboard.

The Spaceman singer, 33, who finished in second place last year, shared an update on Instagram just hours after Mae’s crushing defeat.

Failing to acknowledge the UK’s disappointing result, Sam post a clip from his own performance alongside legendary Queen drummer Roger Taylor.

He wrote: ‘When you are shredding and Roger Taylor is slamming the hell out  of the drums next to you. PS who wants this guitar? It could be yours.’

Sam invited his fans to enter his online competition to win his guitar from the interval performance.

His followers congratulated him after he sang his new track Mountain, and was incredibly joined on stage by Queen drummer Roger Taylor.

Last night, the crowds went completely wild for his performance and viewers took to Twitter to claim that Sam had ‘upstaged’ Mae as they heaped praise on his ‘pure talent’.

One person wrote: ‘Poor Mae Muller being completely upstaged by last year’s UK entry. Britain might have actually had a chance with Sam Ryder and Queen in the #Eurovision house.’

Another said: ‘Just wondering how the UK would have fared with Sam Ryder singing his new song. We could have been hosting again!’

A third tweeted: ‘UK back to reality eh. Sam Ryder was indeed a blip,’ while a fourth penned: ‘Sam Ryder should have won last year and this year! #Eurovision.’

A fifth commented: ‘Sam Ryder could of won Eurovision easily with that song he did in the interval – pure talent.’

Elsewhere, Mae returned to Twitter on Sunday and took to the social media site to thank her fans her their support.

She wrote: ‘I know I joke a lot but we really put our all into the last few months, not the result we hoped for but so proud of everyone & what we achieved on this journey.

‘Congrats to all the countries, I’ll never forget this journey and I love you all.’

Performing her track I Wrote A Song, the singer finished second to last in the competition, she scored 24 points, only beating Germany who gained 18 points.

Mae disappointed Eurovision fans with her live rendition with viewers questioning whether her microphone volume was low amid the quiet vocal quality.
