Molly Yeh’s Leftover Hacks Will Change the Way You Cook [Exclusive]

Food Network star Molly Yeh has a knack for transforming ingredients into great-tasting recipes. Many of her best ideas utilize kitchen scraps as their base. In an exclusive with Showbiz Cheat Sheet, the Girl Meets Farm host shared game-changing kitchen hacks that will forever change how you view leftovers. Oh, and money will be saved as well.

Molly Yeh turns every last scrap into something delicious

Girl Meets Farm star Molly Yeh has always been thrifty in the kitchen. Every leftover in her home is eaten or repurposed to create an entirely new meal.

Yeh often kept food scraps in storage bags. “I have used Ziploc bags forever,” she reveals. “I keep Ziploc bags in my freezer, and I accumulate food in them.”

Molly continued, “I have a bread bag, veggie bag, fruit scrap bag, a chicken stock bag. I add in chicken bones and really scrappy veggies. Totally at the end of their life, and what good are they for, but chicken stock, right?”

She paired with the brand to create The World’s First Frozen Cookbook by Ziploc. This large freezer-safe book allows food scraps and leftovers to be frozen flat before storage.

The celebrity chef believes her partnership with Ziploc came because “the universe saw” she was already utilizing their items daily.

“The Frozen cookbook is just this great way of shining a light onto food scraps and food waste. It shows there truly are really fun, delicious ways of repurposing these scraps and stopping food from going unnecessarily into the trash,” Molly shared.

Growing up, Molly Yeh admits that her dad, John Yeh, didn’t like to waste food. She joked, “My dad’s greatest fear in life is watching go in the trash can, and his favorite food group is leftovers.”

Molly added that by repurposing food that otherwise would be tossed, money is being saved as well as time. “It’s a lot of hard work that goes into this food that is being stretched,” she explained.

The celebrity chef revealed the Ziploc Frozen Cookbook comes with three recipes that use food scraps to create entirely new meals, including Rose Berry Cookie Salad, Crunchy Parmesan, Salami, and Kale Crumble, and Ginger Scallion Veggie Fried Rice. “And I’m particularly proud of the one that uses bread crusts (the Kale Crumble),” she said.

“For this project, we created this recipe that is a savory streusel crumble type of thing. It’s basically just a crouton on steroids with salami. So, like the salami fat kind of gets into the bread, and then it’s all glued together by mountains of Parmesan cheese.”

Cookbook #3 from Molly Yeh is ready to go

Alongside her Ziploc partnership, Molly Yeh is releasing her third cookbook. Sweet Farm was almost three years in the making from the time Molly signed on to write it, to its debut. It follows Molly on the Range and Home is Where The Eggs Are.

Yeh promises the book will highlight her “favorite food group” with a series of beloved recipes featuring all kinds of treats. She says of all her cookbooks, this one was the most “creatively satisfying,” but admits the long days and weeks of writing it was challenging at times.

“It got crazy. There were some long days and some long weeks, especially, you know, right after coming off of maternity leave.” Her daughter Ira was born in February 2022.

The new cookbook features cookies, bars, salads, desserts, drinks, and more. It is currently available for preorder and will be released on March 4.

The World’s First Frozen Cookbook is available on Amazon.com, with a limited number of cookbooks released along with a bonus pack of Ziploc Brand Freezer Bags. Yeh’s exclusive recipes will also be released on Ziploc.com.
