Expert Says Meghan Markle Taking the U.K. Radio Job Would be a Mistake; Here's What She Should Do Instead

Since Meghan Markle stepped down from her role as a working royal in 2020, she has worn a few different hats, make that several different hats. In her post-royal world, the duchess has become a podcaster, a producer, a children’s book author, a public speaker, a reality TV star, a homemaker, a cook, and a lifestyle mogul. So why not just add radio host to that list, right?

After Meghan revealed that her favorite radio station while living in the U.K. was Magic FM, which plays hits from the 1980s to today, the station’s content director, Paul Sylvester, offered her a gig. “The offer is on the table: if the duchess wants to host a show, she’s very welcome,” he said.

A PR expert is revealing why that would be a mistake for Meghan and is sharing advice on what the former Suits star should do next instead.

Kayley Cornelius is a PR expert and celebrity commentator who has been featured in the Daily Mail, The Mirror, the BBC, the New York Post, and more.

Speaking on behalf of OLBG, Cornelius told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “It currently feels as though Meghan Markle is going through a slight identity crisis, as she is still struggling to define who she is post-royalty. She has dipped into a range of different industries since stepping away from her official duties. But none of them seem to have truly stuck. There’s a perception that she has a tendency to half-finish ventures or quietly shelf them when traction does not come fast enough.”

The expert added, “That track record is exactly why a return to U.K. radio could be a mistake. Radio is not about short bursts of attention. It is about consistency, authenticity and longevity. Audiences build relationships with presenters they trust, tuning in week after week to feel a sense of familiarity.

“Given Meghan’s recent history with projects starting strong and then fizzling out, it is uncertain whether she can deliver the kind of long-term stability that radio demands. A show might launch with plenty of buzz, but it also carries the possibility of following a similar path to her other ventures. It could fade sooner than expected and leave her open to further criticism and questions about her ability to follow through.”

According to Cornelius, Prince Harry’s wife does not need to take on another new project now but go back to something she knows well and something she was good at, like acting.

She said: “Ultimately, what Meghan needs right now is not another short-lived experiment but a reputational reset. Sliding back into her acting career could be the key. When she was on Suits, Meghan was genuinely admired. She built a career on her own merit, separate from her royal identity, and audiences warmed to her character and her talent. Returning to acting would remind people of that side of her, the hardworking performer who was carving out a space for herself in Hollywood long before she became a duchess.

“Acting offers something Meghan desperately needs. It would allow her to rebuild her reputation in a field where she has already proven she can succeed, and it would distance her from the narrative of failed side projects. In doing so, she could re-establish a fan base, win back goodwill, and create a foundation strong enough to support other ventures in the future.”

Cornelius concluded, “The heart of the problem is trust. Until Meghan reconnects with audiences in a way that feels authentic, consistent and true to her strengths, new projects in radio, lifestyle or media may struggle to gain lasting traction. Returning to acting might just be the bridge that allows her to rediscover her identity, rebuild her image and finally give her ventures the stability they need to succeed.”
