The 97th Academy Awards delivered some memorable moments both inside and outside the Dolby Theatre. And one everyone keeps talking about is what happened on the red carpet before the ceremony between Oscar winners Halle Berry and Adrien Brody.

Berry interrupted an interview Brody was doing then turned to his girlfriend, Georgina Chapman, and said something before she moved in and kissed him right on his lips. Berry pouncing on her fellow actor and planting one on him is exactly what Brody did 22 years earlier when the Monster’s Ball star presented him with the Oscar and out of nowhere he grabbed her on stage and started kissing her.

Since the moment was just as out of nowhere as it was more than two decades ago and happened right in front of Brody’s partner, a body language expert is weighing in on what they observed from the two during their second Oscars kiss. While another expert says she’s not so sure Chapman enjoyed any of it.

Expert says Berry and Brody’s kiss was ‘passionate’ with ‘no awkwardness’

Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and TV as a consultant and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.”

Now, Stanton has analyzed Berry and Brody’s kiss and observed there wasn’t any “awkwardness” between them even with Chapman standing right there looking on.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Stanton said: “Halle’s brief apology before going in for the kiss was sincere and genuine. The kiss between Adrien and Halle was brief but passionate. Everyone was in a state of elation around them. We saw them swaying side to side as they hugged, which shows us they were both in high spirits and enjoying themselves in the moment. While it only lasted a few seconds, neither party felt awkward or uncomfortable.”

Another expert wonders how Chapman really felt about the kiss off camera

Speaking with Sportsbook Review, longtime PR guru Lynn Carratt noted: “From an unexpected kiss with Halle Berry on the red carpet, echoing their iconic moment in 2003, to a playful chewing gum toss towards [his girlfriend] Georgina Chapman ahead of his acceptance speech, the Oscars was nothing short of eventful for Adrien Brody from start to finish.”

Carratt continued: “Brody, who won for his performance as László Tóth in The Brutalist, an architect striving to rebuild his life in America, kicked off the evening with an unexpected red carpet moment when Berry turned the tables on him — after he famously kissed her on stage following his win for The Pianist.

“And while the moment seemed to amuse Chapman, who stood beside them and even embraced Berry afterward, I can’t help but wonder what she truly thought away from the glare of the cameras. Watching your [partner] share a moment like that with one of the world’s most stunning women can’t be easy — but credit to Georgina for appearing to take it all in stride!”

Carratt concluded: “With Berry making sure to get the last word in on the red carpet, Brody proved later in the night that he wasn’t about to be cut off either. During his speech, in which among other things he thanked [Chapman], the orchestra attempted to play him off … And now that Berry has finally had her revenge, let’s hope the actor manages to avoid any more unexpected surprises at future Academy Awards — something I’m sure [Chapman] would certainly appreciate!”
