Just when fans thought it was safe to sit with their iPhones, Netflix’s Black Mirror Season 7 dropped to remind them how horrifyingly close we are to a dystopian reality. A long hiatus left fans clamoring for more mind-bending tales. And the new season has a fresh batch of dark, satirical, and unsettlingly plausible stories. So, just how close are we to living a real-life Black Mirror episode? Experts predict these three episodes could really happen.
Experts think ‘Black Mirror’ Season 7 episode ‘Eulogy’ has a probability index of 8/10
In Black Mirror Season 7, Episode 5, “Eulogy,” Paul Giamatti delivers a hauntingly poignant performance as Phillip. Phillip embarks on a journey through his past to reconcile with the memory of his late ex-girlfriend, Carol. The episode introduces a speculative technology that allows individuals to immerse themselves in photographs, reliving moments as if stepping back in time. Initially, Phillip’s memories are fragmented, his recollections of Carol obscured by years of emotional turmoil. Guided by a digital avatar, he uncovers painful truths about their relationship, including infidelities and a child he never knew existed.

‘Common People’ also has a high chance of becoming reality
Black Mirror Season 7 Episode 1, “Common People,” also has a high likelihood of really happening, according to experts at VegasSlotsOnline.
In “Common People,” Chris O’Dowd and Rashida Jones portray Mike and Amanda, a working-class couple whose lives unravel when Amanda is diagnosed with a brain tumor. They turn to Rivermind Technologies, a company offering a subscription-based service that uploads Amanda’s consciousness to synthetic tissue. Initially, the service seems promising, but escalating costs and invasive advertising disrupt Amanda’s life, leading Mike to resort to humiliating online stunts to fund her care. The episode critiques the commodification of healthcare, highlighting the ethical and emotional toll on individuals trapped in a profit-driven system.
According to the experts, the events unfolding in “Common People” has a probability index of 7.5/10 with a time horizon of five to 15 years. The experts also gave the events a medium rating in terms of tech readiness. While we may not have the technology for “Common People” to happen quite yet, technologies like Neuralink and Synchron are in current development. Additionally, Americans already live by subscription-based healthcare.
The events in ‘Hotel Reverie’ could happen sooner than we think
Black Mirror Season 7, Episode 3, “Hotel Reverie,” isn’t as far-fetched as it seems.
Issa Rae stars as Brandy Friday, a disillusioned actress who joins ReDream, a company that immerses actors into AI-generated remakes of classic films. Brandy’s consciousness is transported into the 1940s romance Hotel Reverie, where she portrays Dr. Alex Palmer, a role traditionally played by a man. As she navigates the film’s narrative, Brandy inadvertently alters the story, causing Clara, the AI character, to gain awareness and memories of her real-life actor, Dorothy Chambers. Trapped in the simulation, Brandy and Clara develop a deep emotional connection, leading to a poignant and bittersweet conclusion.
According to the experts, the story has a probability index of 7/10 with a time horizon of three to 10 years. As far as tech readiness is concerned, the experts believe we’re nearly there and gave the episode a score of medium-high.
We’ll have to wait and see if these Black Mirror concepts make it off the small screen and into real life.
