Adding a layer of intrigue, Justin was seen donning a jersey bearing the name of Shane Bieber, sparking curiosity about a possible familial link between the two.

According to several sources, despite the relatively rare surname, the Canadian Justin is not biologically related to the MLB Bieber who hales from Laguna Hills, California. At the very least, there is no recent buological connection to explain why they share the relatively uncommon family name, but that hasn’t stopped them from having some fun with it.

While Justin Bieber and Shane Bieber are not biologically related, they have found a way to have a bit of fun with their shared surname. In 2019, while pitching for the Cleveland Guardians (then the Cleveland Indians), Shane Bieber opted for “Not Justin” to be scrolled across the back of his jersey for players’ weekend. During the special MLB event, players can opt to have a nickname on their jersey. The joke came to life after Shane was once misidentified as Justin Bieber on an MLB trading card.
Justin Bieber got a pretty big kick out of the entire situation, wearing a similar jersey a short time later. According to CBS News, Shane gifted his name twin a jersey that read “Not Shane.” The two don’t appear to be close friends. Still, Justin is a fan of the pitcher, especially now that he’s joined the Blue Jays. This is Shane’s first season with the only Canadian baseball team in the MLB. Justin clearly made quick work of grabbing one of his jerseys.
