In recent months, 50 Cent has been relentless in his jabs at Diddy, but his disdain for the controversial music figure isn’t new. Why exactly does 50 Cent harbor such disdain for the embattled mogul?

Netflix is set to release a documentary produced by 50 Cent that delves into the life of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. Although the creators, including 50 Cent himself, claim the film is not intended to tarnish Diddy’s character but rather to explore the dynamics of fame and its subsequent decline, many anticipate a harsh portrayal. This perception is not unfounded, given 50 Cent’s longstanding animosity towards Diddy. Let’s explore the roots of 50 Cent’s grudge and how Diddy perceives this rivalry.

Netflix has announced the release date of 50 Cent’s documentary about Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. While 50 Cent and the team behind the documentary insist it is not meant as a character assassination, but rather as commentary on how people rise to fame and what happens when they fall from it, the consensus is that it will be particularly harsh towards its subject. It’s easy to understand why people think that. 50 Cent really seems to hate Diddy. He’s been trolling the music mogul for years, but let’s take a look at all the reasons he hates Diddy, and how Diddy feels about that.

50 Cent has been talking about Diddy for decades

While Curtis Jackson, better known as 50 Cent, has been making headlines for trolling Diddy since his arrest, he’s actually been speaking out against him since the early 2000s. As a young artist, 50 Cent released a diss track that suggested Diddy may have had a lot more knowledge about Notorious B.I.G.’s death than he ever admitted. It is the first public acknowledgement of a potential feud between them.

Several years later, he grew critical of Diddy’s behaviour towards young artists, suggesting the music mogul exploited young rappers for financial gain before discarding them. He noted multiple times that the artist Diddy signed may have exploded onto the scene but faded out quickly, leaving them scrambling to find a foothold in the industry once Diddy was done with them.

50 Cent says Diddy always made him uncomfortable

In more recent years, 50 Cent has spoken out against Diddy’s behaviour toward both men and women. He shared his own experience with Diddy during a visit to The Breakfast Club. The rapper initially seemed to question Diddy’s sexuality in a negative way, which drew criticism from listeners. He later clarified that he meant Diddy made him uncomfortable, and that he brought a sexual energy to situations where it was unwarranted and unwanted.

According to People, he doubled down on that stance in 2024 after Diddy’s arrest, claiming he had been speaking out against Diddy for a decade and actively avoiding parties and activities organised by the rap mogul. 50 Cent said Diddy brought a weird energy to every event he attended.

Is it really all about business and women?

Competing businesses also fed into the feud. Both 50 Cent and Diddy entered the liquor business, with 50 Cent focused on cognac and champagne, while Diddy’s company crafted tequila and vodka. While both were successful initially, 50 Cent has built a pretty expansive empire, while Diddy’s foray into the liquor business was rife with trouble.

While their business ventures likely played a role in the feud, most people agree that a woman really took things to another level. 50 Cent has a child with Daphne Joy. Their relationship was turbulent, and their breakup even more so. There have been allegations made against 50 Cent, and a defamation lawsuit was filed against Daphne Joy. In the years since their split, it is rumoured that she linked up with Diddy and attended many of his most extreme parties. In fact, DJ Akademiks took to X to question whether Daphne Joy would be involved in the upcoming documentary, given her connection to both rappers. The DJ was clearly trolling 50 Cent, suggesting the entire docuseries is based on a possible love triangle.

As for Diddy, he’s always maintained that there is no trouble between himself and 50 Cent. He even insisted that 50 “loved him” during a visit to The Breakfast Club. While he’s maintained a public perception that things are fine on his end, we don’t actually know how he feels about the rapper or what he’s said about him. His private thoughts might be much different from the public statements he makes.
