Faith Evans is shining a light on autism.

On Sept. 27, the Grammy-winning singer hosted the inaugural Ryder’s Room Gala at the Newark Museum of Art, raising funds for her nonprofit that helps families of children with developmental differences.

The night was a family affair, with Evans joined by her four children — daughter Chyna, 32, and sons Christopher “CJ” Wallace Jr., 28, Joshua, 27, and Ryder, 18.

Evans launched Ryder’s Room Inc. in honor of her youngest son, who was diagnosed with autism at age three. Speaking on the Tamron Hall Show, she recalled pressing doctors for answers when she noticed he wasn’t meeting early speech milestones.

“I’m like, I feel like he should be talking,” Evans said. “He should be saying a couple of words by now, so I finally just begged enough so that he gave me a written diagnosis.”

She credits other parents for guiding her through those early years and said their support inspired her to help others.

“With the help of other parents, thank God, who helped me early on, who became my first advocate, and then I wanted to do the same thing,” she explained. “I’ve learned so much, and I just wanted to share that with other parents who just don’t know where to turn.”

And while music remains a central part of her life, Evans said her priorities have shifted.

“My new normal is that God has another assignment for me,” she recently told CNN. “That doesn’t mean that I don’t see the blessing and having a fan base and having a gift that has touched people in many different ways,” Evans said. “However, you know, my assignment is to be there for my son and what he needs. I am his number one advocate.”
