The White Lotus fans may have been prepared to not see Jennifer Coolidge reprise her eccentric role once again when Season 3 returned to HBO this week, but fans were certainly not ready to lose the catchy Season 2 theme song as well.

It shouldn’t have came as much of a surprise as each season of The White Lotus features a new cast, setting, and theme song, but viewers at home are complaining the Season 3 tune “doesn’t hit the same” as previous renditions.

“The only thing America can agree on right now is that The White Lotus season 3 theme song is NOT it,” one fan wrote on X.

Other viewers took aim at White Lotus creator, writer, and director Mike White for the move, though the theme songs have all been composed by Cristobal Tapia de Veer. “The new white lotus theme song is mike white’s first miss,” another fan commented.

“White Lotus. Listen to the outrage… GIVE US BACK OUR THEME SONG!!!” another passionate fan wrote.

It might take some getting used to. But The White Lotus Season 3 premiere surely inspired some big feelings – including some heated opinions about that “weird” incest storyline that was teased.

“Whoever decided to change The White Lotus intro song for the new season. Put that guy on a blacklist, they don’t belong in the industry,” one X user wrote.

They can’t all be hits! Tapia de Veer once admitted to Variety that he initially thought the Season 2 theme song was “terrible” when he sent it to The White Lotus team. When it came to making the Season 3 theme song, he teased that he sought inspiration on TikTok and YouTube.

Season 3 star Michelle Monaghan recently praised the theme song in a chat with DECIDER where she gushed over the hidden clues and references featured in the opening credits.

“Listen, I didn’t know that Mike did this and then somebody told me that he did,” Monaghan said. “So I will say that I did watch the credits and they’re so beautiful. And the new music is incredible as well.”

“Then I saw so many clues into who each and every one of us is and was or are in the opening credits. And it just got me more excited,” she added.

New episodes of The White Lotus Season 3 premiere Sundays at 9/8c on HBO and MAX now through April 6.
