Henry Cavill suffered an injury that is shutting down the remake of the Highlander franchise for the remainder of the year.

The 42-year-old star suffered the injury during preparation for the role in the preproduction process, sources told Deadline.

Filming on the motion picture will not proceed until next year, insiders told the outlet.

The motion picture is a remake of a 1986 film of the same title that featured Christopher Lambert and the late Sean Connery.

Joining The Superman alum in the cast includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou and Max Zhang. Chad Stahelski is in the director’s chair for the film, which was penned by Michael Finch.

Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Cavill, as well as Amazon MGM Studios, for further comment on the story.

The British actor spoke about the forthcoming film at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last year.

Cavill said he and his collaborators had been ‘going deep into these characters,’ and that he had been doing extra preparation for the part.

‘If you thought you’d seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet,’ The Witcher star said.

Cavill said he was a bit nostalgic about the idea of appearing in the reboot.

‘I’m a lover of the original movies, for better or for worse,’ he said, ‘and it’s one of those things where when I was reading the script for the first time I wasn’t quite too sure where they were going to go with it.’

A logline for the film reads, ‘An immortal Scottish swordsman faces off with other immortal warriors in order to obtain a coveted ability.’

The 1986 film garnered popularity as a video rental, leading to a number of sequels and a TV show.

The rights to Highlander were obtained by UA, Deadline reported, as the possibility also existed ‘to also develop a new series.’

The outlet noted that the company Lionsgate was first to put the reboot into development.

Cavill remains flush with projects, as he’s working on multiple high-profile films.

They include In the Grey for filmmaker Guy Ritchie; Voltron for director Rawson Marshall Thurber; and Enola Holmes 3 for director Philip Barantini

It’s been a big year for the actor, who welcomed his first child, a girl, with fiancée Natalie Viscuso.
