House of David Season 2 is coming to Prime Video. The streamer has renewed the epic Biblical drama for another season, it announced this week. Production is already underway on the new episodes.
‘House of David’ renewed for season 2 at Prime Video
House of David premiered Feb. 27. The show, which stars Michael Iskander as David, attracted 22 million viewers in the first 17 days following its release, leading to a quick renewal from Amazon.
The lavish historical drama follows the young David, who has been anointed by the prophet Samuel to become the new king of Israel. As Saul, the current king, falls victim to his pride, David is on a journey to discover his destiny.
“We are humbled by the extraordinary reaction this show has earned from the faith audience worldwide,” House of David producers, writers, and directors Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn said, according to Deadline. “Thanks to them and our partners at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, Wonder Project will bring more of the Bible and this epic saga to a global audience. Congratulations to our incredible cast and crew.”
‘House of David’ Season 2 will pick up after David’s battle with Goliath
There are still a few episodes left in House of David’s first season, which will end with David’s legendary battle with the giant Goliath (Martyn Ford). Season 2 will “follow the aftermath of the battle between David and Goliath and David’s rise to the throne,” according to a description from Amazon.
“As he navigates palace politics, his family’s jealousy, and a growing romance, David steps deeper into his destiny and learns what it means to become a great leader,” the synopsis continues.
Prime Video has not announced a release date for House of David Season 2. But work is already underway on the new episodes, Erwin shared on Instagram.
“We have an announcement,” he said in the video. “Twenty-two million viewers strong on House of David … so here’s the announcement. House of David Season 2. That’s what we’re doing right here. We’re filming season 2. We can now talk about it. We’ve been making season 2 of this show.”
Iskander will return as David in season, Deadline reports, along with Ali Suliman as King Saul. Other retuning cast include Ayelet Zurer as Saul’s wife Queen Ahinoam; Stephen Lang as Samuel; Indy Lewis, Yali Topol Margalith, Ethan Kai, and Sam Otto as Saul’s children; Oded Fehr as Saul’s adviser Abner; Louis Ferreira as David’s father Jesse; Davood Ghadami as Eliab, David’s eldest brother; Ashraf Barhom as Doeg, a mysterious Edomite; and Alexander Uloom as King Achish
House of David Season 1 is streaming on Prime Video. New episodes release weekly through April 3.
