Final Trailer Unveiled for the Highly Anticipated Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Joining Glover, the star-studded cast features Luis Guzman as Wart and Issa Rae as Honey Queen, alongside Chris Pratt, who reprises his role as Mario.

A brand new trailer also confirms an exciting piece of casting as Donald Glover is revealed as the voice actor for Yoshi the dinosaur.

The Childish Gambino star joins Luis Guzman as Wart and Issa Rae as Honey Queen to complete an already impressive cast led by Chris Pratt’s return as Mario. 

Anya Taylor-Joy also reprises her role from the 2023 outing The Super Mario Bros. Movie as Princess Peach as does Jack Black as Bowser.

The sequel will also introduce Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, who debuted in the 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy.

The new trailer teases the aftermath of Bowser’s defeat in the original movie. Mario, Luigi (Charlie Day) and Peach must now face off against the evil Koopa King and his son as well as contend with their new outer space surroundings.

Mario and his Mushroom Kingdom comrades galaxy-hop to various planets, expanding the scope of the Nintendo hero’s universe in epic fashion.

Fans are also given a glimpse of Glover’s Yoshi voice, despite the character traditionally being limited to grunts, squeals and the odd ‘Yoshi!’ yell.

Mario fans were ecstatic at the casting choice, with one posting on X: ‘Donald Glover is going from playing Lando in Solo A Star Wars Story to Prowler in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse to voicing Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is impressive! Issa Rae is voicing The Honey Bee Queen! So glad Nintendo & Illumination got a diverse voice cast!’   

‘DONALD GLOVER IS YOSHI!!!! THAT IS ACTUALLY INSANE! I WOULD’VE NEVER HAVE GUESSED LMAO THIS IS AWESOME’ added another.

‘There’s gotta be a joke in the movie where Yoshi talks normally and it sounds just like Glover’s typical speaking voice,’ pointed out one fan. 

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is an animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros., and follows The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was released in 2023 and earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide. 

It became the second-highest-grossing film of 2023, the third-highest-grossing animated film, the fifteenth-highest-grossing film of all time, and the highest-grossing film produced by Illumination. 

At this year’s Golden Globe Awards, the film received nominations for Best Animated Feature Film, Best Original Song, and Cinematic Box Office Achievement, a category introduced at the same ceremony.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is directed by returning filmmakers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, from a screenplay by returning screenwriter Matthew Fogel, with Brian Tyler returning to compose the score. 

The new movie comes as a new report revealed the video gaming industry is worth more than twice the music and film industries combined.

According to a Forbes report, the gaming industry generated an estimated $184.4 billion, while the music industry generated $26.2 billion and the movies generated $26 billion in box office revenue. 

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will hit screens in the US on April 1 and cinemas in the UK on April 3.
