Mick Fleetwood, drummer and namesake for legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac, attended a pre-Grammy event ahead of the tribute performance for his late band member Christine MvVie at the upcoming 65th Grammy Awards ceremony.

The musician was among a number of celebrities to lend their support to the Grammy Gift Lounge held at Tom’s Watch Bar, which is directly across the street from the Crypto.com Arena (formerly named Staples Center), where the Grammys will be held on Sunday, February 5.

Fleetwood (born Michael John Kells Fleetwood), 75, showed off his flair for fashion by styling black pants with a brown blazer with multi-color stripes over a gold button-up.

He stepped along the red carpet in patent leather sneakers, and a gold newsboy retro hat, that coordinated with his bold dress shirt.

For an added cool factor, the Redruth, Cornwall, England native sported rocked dark-tinted aviator shades, despite the event being inside the sports bar.

For McVie’s upcoming tribute during the Grammy Awards telecast, Fleetwood will be joined by Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt for a performance of her song Songbird, according to the Grammy Awards website.

McVie wrote and sang Songbird, which she later revealed as the song she’s most proud of writing, and it appeared on the band’s classic studio album Rumours (1977).

‘For some peculiar reason, I wrote “Songbird” in half an hour; I’ve never been able to figure out how I did that,’ she told People in 2017, before explaining more on how it came to life. ‘I woke up in the middle of the night and the song was there in my brain, chords, lyrics, melody, everything. I played it in my bedroom and didn’t have anything to tape it on. So I had to stay awake all night so I wouldn’t forget it and I came in the next morning to the studio and had (producer) Ken Callait put it on a two-track. That was how the song ended up being. I don’t know where that came from.’

McVie began working with Fleetwood Mac in 1968, and ended up joining as an official member two years later.

While Stevie Nicks and longtime member Lindsay Buckingham received a lot of the praise and accolades for their songwriting and singing, McVie actually wrote or co-wrote many of the band’s hits, including Don’t Stop (Rumours 1977), Everywhere (Tango In The Night 1987), You Make Loving Fun (Rumours 1977), Say You Love Me (Fleetwood Mac 1975), Hold Me (Mirage 1982), Over My Head (Fleetwood Mac 1975), Little Lies (Tango In The Night 1987), Think About Me (Tusk 1979) and Love In Store (Mirage 1982), among others.

McVie passed away at age 79 on November 30, 2022 after being hospitalized following a brief illness.

Details on the illness have not been shared with the public, but the band released a statement shortly after her death, describing her as ‘the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life.’

Nicks, 74, who joined the band with Buckingham in 1975, went on to call McVie her ‘best friend in the whole world.’
