Less than a month after marrying Prince Harry, Meghan Markle attended her first royal engagement with Queen Elizabeth II.

The Duchess of Sussex’s first outing with her late grandmother-in-law was in the county of Cheshire, England on June 14, 2018. The women arrived at Runcorn Station by the royal train to open the Mersey Gateway Bridge and the Storyhouse, a performing-arts theater in the town. They were also treated to a performance by local school children.

The royal ladies then greeted well-wishers who lined their route to see them before their visit concluded, and that’s when aides stepped in to guide Meghan after she made a mistake.

Now, a video has resurfaced showing what the former Suits star did next that left even the queen dumbfounded.

The video making the rounds again was shared on X.com. It shows Meghan alongside the queen before they begin the walkabout, and aides checking with Meghan that she understands to be behind the queen as they proceed. The duchess nods that she does but then walks ahead of Her Majesty to shake hands and receive flowers from fans. Not only do the royal aides appear “stunned” but even Queen Elizabeth looks over at Meghan to see what’s going on.

The 17-second clip has over 11 million views, more than 20,000 likes, and 1,500 comments from users who had a whole lot to say about Meghan’s actions.

“Too bad we can’t see the look on the queen’s face (flowers in the way). I’m sure she wondered what the hell M was doing. People were there to see the queen, not M,” one person wrote.

Another accused Meghan of “pretending to be innocent & not aware of protocol, since no one taught her (Oh, please), YET she knew very well not to walk in front of the queen.”

A third said: “There’s a moment where you can tell the queen is thinking wtf?! She looks stunned.” And a fourth agreed: “I noticed that too! The queen takes a pause and gives her the ‘dead eye.’”

Another moment from their engagement that went viral is when Meghan was spotted getting into the car before the queen. As one person posted, “Meghan also pushed her way ahead of our late queen getting into the departure vehicle first. [The queen] had allowed her to avoid an awkward moment. Not an ounce of respect.”

Other fans were outraged by that too and sounded off, writing: “Who barges in front of the most famous and dearly loved queen? She’s no respect. Shame shame shame,” and “I think that anyone with any grain of common sense would realize that the queen is ALWAYS ahead of anybody else. Where were Meghan’s powers of observation?”

However, in that video, Meghan was seen saying something to the queen before she got in ahead of her. According to the Daily Mail, she asked Harry’s grandmother, “What is your preference?” to which the queen replied, “You go first.”
