The NBA community is mourning the loss of a cherished former player.
Michael Sweetney, the former Georgetown University standout who spent four seasons in the NBA, has died at 43. His wife, India Sweetney, shared the news of his death.
“With the heaviest hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Michael,” India wrote in an emotional Facebook post on Sept. 17. “To know Mike Sweetney was to [love] him. No one loved him more and he loved no one more than his family.”
No cause of death has been disclosed for the retired New York Knicks player. According to ESPN, Sweetney was pronounced dead Sept. 16 at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in New Jersey.

India remembered her husband as a devoted father and family man whose absence will be profoundly felt.
“His children were the light of his life, and he lived every day to give them the best life possible,” she continued alongside a touching family photo. “He’s been my best friend for 30 years and my husband for almost 20. I’m not sure what we or I will do without him.”
