Cory Wharton is once again leaning on faith and community as his youngest daughter faces another major health challenge. The Teen Mom alum asks for prayers as his daughter, Maya, 3, prepares for her next open-heart surgery.

The 34-year-old revealed on Instagram that his Maya, whom he shares with ex Taylor Selfridge, is preparing for another open-heart surgery. In a post shared on Instagram, Wharton held Maya on his hip while she wore a hospital gown and clutched her pacifier.

“Prayers for Maya. Maya has a Cath lab this morning to get her ready for her next Open Heart Surgery,” the #girldad captioned the carousel of images.

“I think all my parents can agree. It’s always stressful when your kid has to go under anesthesia, especially when you start to have PTSD from all her other procedures. It’s not a good feeling, but we know she needs this in order to feel better. I’ll say this I know Maya is a lil warrior & we will get through this.”

Maya has been on a long medical journey since infancy. At just 7-months-old, she underwent her first open-heart surgery. In January 2023, Cory updated fans that Maya had been discharged after another major procedure.

“I have some GOOD news to tell you all. WE finally got released from the hospital,” he shared at the time about his daughter. “I’m so thankful these past two weeks have been very up-and-down and have felt like a nightmare at times. But I always try to stay positive and being at the Children’s Hospital for two weeks & seeing some families who have been up there for months or years and some maybe won’t leave the hospital. I’m very thankful that we got released today.”

The father-of-three explained that Maya underwent a Glenn procedure, which helps reroute blood flow in children with congenital heart defects. While recovery brought new challenges, Wharton said he was simply grateful to bring his daughter home.

In addition to Maya, Wharton is also father to Mila Mae, also with Selfridge, and Ryder, whom he shares with ex Cheyenne Floyd. Through all of Maya’s health battles, he has consistently highlighted her resilience and the support of his family.
