Geri Horner is reportedly causing delays in the development of a Netflix biopic about the Spice Girls, aiming to reassert her influence within the iconic band.
At 53, the singer is allegedly attempting to reclaim her standing among her fellow Spice Girls after feeling sidelined following the public embarrassment of her husband Christian’s sexting scandal.
This situation unfolds amid reports that Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham are considering invoking the group’s “rule of four” to proceed with the project without Geri’s approval, a strategy they previously used to tour without Victoria in 2019.
According to insiders, Ginger Spice’s so-called “diva” behavior and desire to be the leading figure are not new. They suggest she might walk away from the project if her conditions are not met, reminiscent of her departure from the band in 1998.
One source stated, “Geri tends to prioritize her own interests and prefers to be in control of decision-making.”
‘Geri’s still embarrassed by all the Christian allegations, and feels she’s lost some of the power she had. She now wants to be the one who plans all the 30th anniversary celebrations’.

They told The Sun: ‘Geri likes to feel needed so will want them to be flattering her and giving her more control so that she agrees’.
Daily Mail have contacted Geri Horner’s representatives for comment.
In July husband Christian was released from his operational duties as the boss of Red Bull with an £80million package, one year after the scandal that engulfed him over texts he apparently sent to a female employee.
He was accused of ‘coercive behaviour’ towards a female employee, accusations which he denied and was twice cleared of in internal hearings overseen by two KCs.
The reason for his departure was never explained to him, with Frenchman Laurent Mekies, previously of Racing Bulls, Red Bull’s junior team, taking over.
Daily Mail revealed earlier this month that Christian paid the woman involved – whose identity is protected by legal anonymity – £3million, in return for agreeing to move on and drop her allegations.
Meanwhile last year insiders claimed biopic talks were going well until Geri decided to back out of her involvement in the project and scrapped plans for a tour after her feud with Mel B turned increasingly ugly.
Ginger Spice reportedly turned down the lucrative drama deal amid rumours she and husband Christian had been approached to make a ‘really personal’ fly-on-the-wall TV series, following his sexting scandal and Red Bull axing.
A source claimed Ginger Spice’s ‘diva’ behaviour and bid to be ‘top dog’ was nothing new and said she would walk away just like when she quit the band in 1998 (pictured 1996)

Now a source has said: ‘Geri has been dragging her heels for almost a year and the rest of the band are keen to plough ahead as next year marks the 30th anniversary of the release of their debut single Wannabe’.
‘A variety of projects are being talked about to mark the occasion, including a documentary and a possible tour or performance by the group. But a drama doesn’t actually involve the girls taking as much time out of their lives to be a part of it’.
They told The Sun: ‘They just need to endorse the project and provide what input and insight they can. That has been slowed way down, however, and the creators are keen to get going’.
Daily Mail have contacted all five Spice Girls for comment.
Last year the streaming service reportedly given the feuding band a ‘stark ultimatum’ and told them to make up otherwise, much like controversial drama The Crown, will produce the show without any input from the people featured in it.
A source said: ‘Executives are keen to have all the group on board providing as much input as possible – after all they are pop royalty.
It comes after reports Mel B , Mel C , Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham would implement the group’s ‘rule of four’ and overrule Geri to plough ahead with the show (pictured 2023)
‘But Netflix are the organisation who defied the wishes of real royalty and went ahead and made The Crown, so they aren’t afraid to go it alone when they have to.
‘The project is in its very early stages so there’s plenty of time to get all five Spice Girls involved.
A source said: ‘It would have seen five actresses taking on the roles of Posh, Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Baby.
‘The venture would have landed them all pay deals of around £1million for essentially not lifting a finger.
‘But as the negotiations ramped up, the others were told Geri had objected. The plans have basically been thrown out.’
Daily Mail contacted Geri’s reps for comment at the time.
