In a surprising turn of events at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid was unable to penetrate a resilient Getafe defense, as Jose Bordalas led his team to a rare triumph, intensifying the pressure on Madrid’s championship hopes.
The match began with promise for the home side. Vinicius Junior found himself in a prime position, but his effort was thwarted by a well-prepared David Soria, following a lapse in Getafe’s defense.
Arda Guler also posed a threat when he deftly maneuvered on the edge of the box, only to be denied by Soria once more. However, after these initial chances, Madrid found it challenging to dominate the game.
As the game progressed, Getafe found their footing, with Luis Milla and Mauro Arambarri at the heart of their midfield. Their effective disruption of Madrid’s flow allowed Getafe to launch several counter-attacks, further complicating the home team’s efforts.
Getafe execute midfield plan
Getafe gradually grew into the contest through the midfield pairing of Luis Milla and Mauro Arambarri, who disrupted Madrid’s rhythm and launched counter-attacks.
The breakthrough came when Arambarri reacted quickest to a loose clear$ance from Antonio Rudiger, teeing up Martin Satriano to volley into the top corner. It capped a difficult half for Rudiger and exposed Madrid’s lack of control.
Head coach Alvaro Arbeloa responded with changes after the break, introducing Dani Carvajal, Dean Huijsen and Rodrygo Goes to increase tempo.
Late pressure, no reward
Madrid dominated possession in the second half but created few clear-cut chances. A glancing header from Rudiger and a late effort from Rodrygo were among the limited threats, both handled by Soria.
Frustration boiled over in stoppage time when substitute Franco Mastantuono was sent off for dissent, followed by a dismissal for Getafe’s player Adrian Liso .
The result marks only Getafe’s second win at the Bernabeu and Bordalas’ first against Madrid.
