Laura Govan and Gilbert Arenas are celebrating a major milestone in their son Alijah’s recovery.

The proud parents shared a video of their 18-year-old walking into a room filled with balloons, flowers, and a “Welcome Home” after being released from the hospital following a car crash last week in Los Angeles.

In the caption, the former couple expressed deep gratitude to the medical team and supporters who helped during the difficult time.
“I want to thank Jose, Bryant, and Robert for saving @alijah0arenas — he can’t wait to meet you guys. Truly grateful to everyone for the prayers, love, and support during his healing. Much love,” they wrote.

Govan and Arenas also shared a humorous moment that showed Alijah’s personality hasn’t changed.
“Funny enough, Alijah told his boys way back: ‘If I’m ever in a coma, don’t bring flowers. Bust in rapping “I might swerve, bend that corner, woah” by @gelo like it’s the national anthem.’ Because nothing screams perfect timing like saying ‘Swerve on that corner, woah’… right after you actually did. Into a tree. Into a hospital stay. WELCOME HOME. #adidas #uscbasketball #godisgood.”

The young athlete was hospitalized on Thursday, April 24, after being involved in a single-car crash in Los Angeles. Details of the accident have not been publicly released, but the incident led to a week-long hospital stay.

On Wednesday, May 1, the Arenas family confirmed to ESPN’s Shams Charania that Alijah had been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home.

“We are grateful to share that Alijah Arenas has been released from the hospital and is now resting comfortably under close watch,” the family said in a statement. “While his journey to full recovery is just beginning, his spirit remains strong, and he is surrounded by love and support.”

Alijah is the second-oldest of four children Gilbert Arenas shares with his ex, Laura Govan — Izela, Alijah, Hamiley, and Aloni. Gilbert also has a daughter, Gia, from a previous relationship.

Widely regarded as one of the top high school basketball prospects in the country, Alijah committed to play for USC earlier this year and is expected to make an impact on the court once fully recovered.
