Golden Brooks is beaming with pride as a mother.
The actress, known for her role in “Girlfriends,” recently turned to Instagram to honor a significant achievement by her daughter, Dakota.

In an exciting development, Dakota made her acting debut in a short film as part of the 2025 Short Film Series with Kids in the Spotlight. Brooks couldn’t contain her excitement over this memorable milestone.
“Dakota appeared in her first movie short with @kidsinthespotlight for their short film series! I’m so impressed and proud of everyone involved in this incredible project… Dakota, you truly shone, young lady… Keep reaching for the stars. Keep growing,” Brooks expressed. “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to support and offer encouraging words to these young, emerging artists. It was truly inspiring!”

Brooks also shared moments from the Kids in the Spotlight Film Awards, describing the 2025 event as “sensational.” Held in collaboration with Paramount Television Studios, the celebration aimed to highlight the creative talents of foster youth through filmmaking.
“The event was overflowing with phenomenal talent and love, celebrating and amplifying the voices of foster youth and changing lives forever,” she added.
In the comments, actress Jennifer Freeman shared her excitement for Dakota’s big moment, writing, “This is amazing! Congratulations Dakota! So beautiful like your mama.”
The organization itself also responded to Brooks’ post, writing, “You are truly GOLDEN. Huge thanks to you and Dakota for your support and encouragement of these amazing young filmmakers.”
Brooks and her ex-boyfriend, actor D.B. Woodside, welcomed their daughter, Dakota Tao Brooks-Woodside, who turned 16 on September 1st.
To celebrate the occasion, Brooks posted a loving tribute on Instagram, writing, “”Happy birthday to my Dakota Tao Woodside who turns 16 years old today!! I cannot believe how fast time is going by… I know you’re going to cringe at these older videos! My little @tiktok dancer was all about those dances back in the day (meaning four years ago… Lol!)”
She added,”I love you, Dakota… Just me and you…here’s too many more memories, my beautiful girl! (more to come later) #sweet16.”
