In a recent turn of events, former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has pointed fingers at his successor, Governor Monday Okpebholo, accusing him of orchestrating an attack during Obaseki’s visit to Manchester, United Kingdom. This allegation has stirred the political waters, drawing attention to the friction between the former and current administrations.

In a video that has quickly gained traction online, Obaseki alleged that the state government financed individuals to confront him abroad, leading to an assault on his team members. He issued a stern warning, suggesting that any aggression directed at him would be reciprocated with equal force.

“Tell the governor, Okpebholo, or whatever he calls himself, that when you start with violence, you will reap violence. The government paid people to come to Manchester and attack me, and they slapped Albert. I will not fold my hands while they attack me. I am going to fight back,” Obaseki declared, underscoring his resolve not to remain passive.

Despite stepping away from the public eye following his tenure, Obaseki expressed that the recent provocations have compelled him to speak out. He voiced his discontent with how the new government has managed the transition process, revealing that he had submitted an extensive 833-page transition document. However, he was taken aback by reports that officials allegedly demanded allowances before they would engage with the documents.

Obaseki also criticised the new administration’s handling of the transition process. According to him, he handed over an 833-page transition document but was shocked when officials allegedly demanded sitting allowances before engaging with the documents.

“I left an 833-page transition document. I told them I don’t want my work to spoil; I called them to set up a transition committee so we could meet. They said I should pay them a sitting allowance,” he stated.

His remarks have intensified political tensions between the two camps, with supporters on both sides trading accusations over alleged mismanagement, provocation, and disrespect for due process.
