Actor Greg Germann has reportedly filed for divorce from his wife of 12 years, Martha Champlin.

TMZ has reported the Ally McBeal alum filed divorce documents on Tuesday.

Germann, 66, indicated that their date of separation was March 3, 2024 – nearly one year ago.

The exes, who do not have any children together, wed in 2013. 

He said they split due to ‘irreconcilable differences’ and has asked the court to refrain from granting her spousal support.

Additionally, Germann is seeking to split the home they share 50/50. However, he reportedly stated all their other belongings are separate property that will be fully owned by either himself or Champlin.

The last time the actor appears to have posted about Champlin was back in 2020, during the COVID pandemic, where he praised her and other educators for working amid the challenges.

He gushed about Martha and her devotion to her job as an elementary school principal during the crisis, along with a photo of her working from home. 

‘Grateful to all on the front lines during this crisis, educators and teachers among them! My wife Martha is an Elementary School Principal — literally working around the clock from home, along with staff and amazing teachers, to create multiple virtual online classrooms. Teachers hold classes live throughout the day and are interacting visually & audibly with the entire class online, in real time! Educators & Teachers are HEROES!!!’ he gushed. 

Germann was previously married to Christine Mourad and they have a son together, 27-year-old actor Asa Germann.  

The Houston-born actor played Richard Fish, co-owner of the Cage & Fish law firm, on the legal series Ally McBeal from 1997 to 2002. 

In 1999, Germann and the Ally McBeal cast won the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.  

‘I’ve heard that this is my breakout part,’ he told Entertainment Weekly in 1998 of the role. 

While the publication noted the series was considered a ‘chick show’, Germann noted it wouldn’t be described a ‘guy’s show’ if the cast was dominated by men and had a male lead.

One of his more notable roles was that of Dr. Tom Koracick on Grey’s Anatomy. He played Koracick from 2017 to 2023

‘If you had that many men [in the cast] and it was called Billy McNeal, people wouldn’t say it was a guy’s show,’ he said. 

Germann has enjoyed an illustrious TV career, with guest appearances on the likes of Desperate Housewives, CSI and Curb Your Enthusiasm starring Larry David.

His TV resume also includes roles in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Once Upon a Time, Chasing Life, How To Get Away with Murder, and NCIS.

On the big screen, he’s landed roles in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Crazylove, Down to Earth, Joe Somebody, and Sweet November. 

He has son Asa German, who is also an actor, from his previous marriage to Christine Mourad

Outside of acting, Germann is also involved in philanthropic efforts, serving on the board of directors of The People Concern, a social service agency assisting homeless individuals and survivors of domestic violence.
