Long Before Flavortown, Food Network Star Guy Fieri Was Already Cooking Up His Future [Exclusive]

Food Network‘s Guy Fieri knew his future lay in the food industry long before becoming the mayor of Flavortown. The television personality, restauranteur, and entrepreneur told Showbiz Cheat Sheet he always knew he wanted to become a chef, and his fate was sealed after his father uttered 12 life-changing words.

Guy Fieri cooked an impressive first meal at just 8 years old

At the age of 8, Guy Fieri was already in the kitchen, cooking up meals his family loved. He says that he won over his toughest critic with the first meal he ever prepared — steak and pasta.

“This is the most almost cliche story, and it is the truth. It is 1,000% what happened. I was about 8 years old. My parents were both really good cooks, but we had a pretty diversified menu. We were in macrobiotics for a while. We were vegetarian for a while; we bounced all around,” he began.

“One night, my mom was making eggplant parmesan, and I smelled the cooking of the breadcrumbs. I asked if we were having chicken parmesan. She said it was Eggplant Parmesan and added if I didn’t like what she was cooking I could cook,” Guy continued.

“So I was a confident 8 year old. I went to the grocery store in our town and talked to the butcher. I told him, ‘I want to make steak. How do you make steak?’ He gave me a couple. My parents came home and there I was sauteing a steak. I have no idea how to saute a steak. I just got in the pan with butter and I gave it some soy sauce, which now, thinking about it, umami.”

“So my dad sits down, picks by the steak. He looks at me, and I think I’m dead. Then he says, ‘This might be the best steak I’ve ever had in my life.’ And it was just like just goosebumps. Then my dad said, ‘You don’t do the dishes you cooked.’ I’m cooking every night now!” Guy concluded.

Guy Fieri makes cooking easy

Guy Fieri knows that keeping a pantry stocked with dozens of ingredients might not be either practical nor affordable for most home chefs. Therefore, the longtime Food Network personality has updated his line of sauces, rubs, condiments, and seasonings to take the guesswork out of adding a flavor punch to every meal.

“We did it for you, that’s the whole thing, and made it affordable. Fortunately, when you’re getting a chance to work with Walmart and Kroger and so many of the major brands across the country, it’s almost available everywhere,” he explained.

“So we did the sauces. We came out with some barbecue sauces. Now here’s the launch of the new eight-wing sauce coming into play. And what I’m super excited about, of course, is the dry rubs. I’m giving you fresh spices. I’ve given you the right blends. I’ve given you the chance to take your cooking to the next level,” he concluded.
