Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been together for close to a decade. The couple met on The Voice and began a relationship as they were both reeling from their respective divorces. In her latest album, Stefani wrote a song about the way Shelton makes her feel. She said she began to feel the most confident in herself during their relationship.

In 2024, Stefani released the song “Pretty” on her album Bouquet. She said the issue of being pretty has been on her mind since middle school. This feeling inspired her to write the song.
“There’s a song on the record called ‘Pretty,’ and I was thinking about it, and I was looking back in my life, like the photos, like physical and inner beauty of myself,” she said on The Drew Barrymore Show (per NBC). “And I was thinking about eighth grade; I’m like staring in the mirror in the gym, right? Like, by myself, going, ‘Am I cute…?’”
She said that when she reflected on her life, she felt the most beautiful during her relationship with Shelton.
“‘Where am I the prettiest? When do I like myself the most?’” Stefani asked herself. “And it was right when Blake started loving me, and I wanted to write a song about that. Because when you actually feel love for the first time, you can. They reflect you; you can see yourself in them. And I wanted to write a song about that.”
In the song’s chorus, she sings, “I, I-I-I-I, I never felt pretty ’til you loved me / I always felt pretty, pretty, pretty unlucky / I, I-I-I-I, I never felt pretty ’til you loved me / And now I feel pretty, pretty, pretty lucky.”
She said their relationship was a miracle
Stefani and Shelton bonded over their divorces, and their relationship soon turned romantic. Stefani admitted this alarmed her, and she tried to put a stop to it.
“We had just met, and it was chaos. Both of our lives were in complete turmoil, all over the ground. Nothing could save us at that point,” Stefani told People. “There was a point where I was like, ‘I can’t even talk to you. This is insane. I already have enough problems. This is not happening anymore. We’re not going to text or nothing.’”
Ultimately, though, he won her over when he asked her to work on a song with him. Stefani said that she is glad he did. It feels to her that his presence in her life is a miracle.
“Something that I wanted since I was a little girl is to be married and have this love that I saw my parents have and have babies,” she said. “That dream was completely ruined; it was crushed, and I had to figure out how I was going to move forward and make a new dream, and God putting Blake in my life was just that miracle.”

This July, Stefani and Shelton celebrated four years of marriage. In honor of their anniversary, Shelton posted a picture of them kissing on their wedding day.
“My pretty girl… I’m the luckiest man to be married to you and to know you,” he wrote on Instagram. “I love you [Gwen Stefani]!!!!!! Happy anniversary!!!!”
Stefani also made a post noting that she thanked God for her relationship every day.
