She has spoken this week of her ‘deep grief’ for friends who lost everything in the Los Angeles wildfires.

But these pictures of Gwyneth Paltrow, taken just days before the blaze erupted last Tuesday, are a flashback to a more carefree time.

The Iron Man actress and her husband, Brad Falchuk, were seen casually shopping for luxury goods in Santa Barbara, a few miles along the Californian coast from the couple’s Montecito mansion.

Wrapping up in the winter sunshine in a cashmere Chanel cardigan coat, jeans and high-top leather and canvas trainers from JW Anderson, the lifestyle guru was in good spirits during the trip and smiled as they bumped into friends.

The pink-and-white chunky kimono-style knit is from the luxury brand’s 2020 Cruise collection and is no longer available, although one is on a resale site for £3,000.

The 52-year-old also wore a necklace featuring the letter ‘B’ – a nod, perhaps, to her TV writer and director husband.

The pictures were taken last Sunday, two days before wildfires broke out amid strong winds in the celebrity enclave.

Gwyneth’s Goop store is understood to have been spared when the fires ripped through the city’s exclusive Pacific Palisades district.

She had also put the eight-bedroom Los Angeles home she had shared with ex-husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, on the market for £24.3million in June.

It is not clear whether it has been sold, although it is not thought to have been affected by the fires.

Writing on her Instagram page on Thursday, the star mourned ‘our beloved Los Angeles’.

‘We are in deep grief for so many of our close friends who have lost everything,’ she wrote. ‘Thank you to those inquiring, we are currently safe.

‘When the fires are out there will be more to say and everything to do. The city of angels will need angels of all kinds. Please everyone, stay safe and vigilant.’

Although the Shakespeare in Love actress has become better known for her quirky wellness brand, Goop – which has sold vagina-scented candles and coffee enemas – she is still taking on film and TV roles.

Later this year she is set to star in table tennis drama Marty Supreme, alongside Timothee Chalamet.

The apocalyptic fires tore through the ritzy enclave of Pacific Palisades on Tuesday.

They rapidly spread to surrounding suburbs as a windstorm carried embers and debris in all directions.

Residents fled and then waited with bated breath to learn more about their homes, as news began trickling out that entire streets had been wiped off the map, firefighters were running out of water, and resources were being diverted to fight the fire on multiple fronts.

Now, the widespread devastation is becoming clearer as celebrities share their devastation upon discovering they’ve lost their million-dollar mansions.
