Gone are the days when summer television was synonymous with reruns. However, even now, network TV hosts some familiar repeats during the sultry months of June, July, and August. For instance, let’s take a peek at tonight’s lineup on ABC’s primetime schedule.
Fans of High Potential will face disappointment tonight as there are no new episodes on air. Adding to the dismay is the news that the release date for High Potential Season 3 has been pushed back. Is High Potential Airing a New Episode Tonight on ABC (July 21)?
Tonight’s schedule on ABC offers no fresh content. Instead, viewers will be treated to reruns. The evening begins with RJ Decker at 8:00 p.m. ET, followed by a double dose of Will Trent from 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET.
Will There Be a Season 3 of High Potential?
Yes! In March 2026, ABC renewed High Potential for Season 3. It was also revealed that the series would have new showrunners, Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face), with Todd Harthan leaving to work on a live-action adaptation of the YA book series The Inheritance Cycle (currently titled Eragon).
When Is High Potential Season 3 Coming Out?
It was revealed at the Disney Upfront event that three ABC favorites, High Potential, Will Trent, and The Rookie, will all be held for midseason debuts. Sadly, that means that all three shows won’t be back with new episodes for the fall 2026 season.
Official release dates have yet to be announced, but all three shows are expected to return in early 2027 (most likely January).
“What we’ve seen the last several years, and we’ve really proven this out with Will Trent and The Rookie back in midseason of 24 and 25, is we want to give viewers a chance to watch these shows with as little interruption as possible across the season,” ABC’s SVP of Content Strategy and Scheduling Ari Goldman said. “So I think when we get to the midseason plans, and you think about the opportunities that we have on the ABC schedule, going from New Year’s Rockin’ Eve to the College Football Playoff, the Grammys, the Oscars, and obviously the Super Bowl. I think we have such amazing momentum at the start of 27 to bring the show back in a big way.”
High Potential and Will Trent will most likely air on Tuesdays, with The Rookie and the upcoming spinoff The Rookie: North together on Mondays.
