Celebrity chef Hilda Baci, with the help of her mother, has kicked off her Guinness World Record attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.

The Guinness World Record holder, who rose to fame in 2023 after breaking the record for the longest cooking marathon, kicked off the massive culinary challenge amid cheers from fans and well-wishers. The event, held at a designated venue in Lagos, is not just a display of culinary skill but also a celebration of African cuisine, culture, and unity.

As the cooking began, Hilda, alongside her mother, was seen praying fervently for the success of her daughter’s latest attempt, invoking blessings for strength, endurance, and safety. The heartfelt moment drew emotional reactions from the crowd, many of whom hailed her as the backbone of Hilda’s journey.

“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! 🫧✨ I personally rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself 💚. In just a few hours, this same pot will be home to thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making,” she captioned the video.

What to expect from Hilda Baci’s world’s largest pot of jollof rice

Using a specially constructed 22,619-litre pot, roughly 6 meters in diameter, designed to hold enough food to feed about 10,000 people.

The event, held in Lagos, combines culinary spectacle with community service. Hilda plans to use 250 bags of rice in the massive pot, which she hopes to fill to about 80%.

The effort isn’t just for breaking records; the cooked food will be shared with attendees and donated to charitable causes.
